AmiKIT - truly amazing!
« on: September 12, 2008, 07:33:28 AM »
Hi All,

Having just installed AmiKIT 1.5.0 and given it a quick whirl, I just had to post a message saying how incredible it is...

First off, it looks sensational, with proper anti-alaised TTF fonts and 24-bit icons. Plus it has a ton of great stuff installed and ready to go.

I've always had major hassles getting MP3s and AVIs to work under WinUAE, but with AmiKIT it worked out of the box, so to speak. Any AVI I could throw at it worked flawlessly and at full speed! My PC is only modest (P4 3.0GHz, 512MB RAM, XP SP3), but everything whizzed along...

My last real Amiga was an A1200 which I had set up very nicely with MagicWB and a few other system enhancers, but I always yearned after a hires, 24-bit RTG desktop with all the bells and whistles. With AmiKIT I can finally have that...

I strongly suggest that every Amiga user give it a try, as it's certainly the best 108MB of downloads I've done in a LONG time...

Just for the record; I have no connection with AmiKIT, I'm just an amazed user! :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

I could say "I told ya so", but I don't remember if it was you or another user that I tried to encourage to use AmiKit.

It is very nice!

My install of 1.5 over 1.4x failed so I need to uninstall and try again, but I still think AmiKit is a great add-on to WinUAE and AmigaForever.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I can say one think (maybe two...)

To make an Amiga ("true" hardware), work with so much stuff (software) STABLE it's almost impossible.

It's heroic work :).

BTW. I'm TRYING to make all my stuff work well. But for example... my migi refuse to start ArtEffect... :(. Just like that... reset. :(.

Yes, I did. (I am smart enough to know the difference between an update and a clean install, and saw that you provided an update exe)

I have had trouble installing AmiKit on my Dell XPS700 Tower in the past as well, so it is probably just an isolated problem.  I am going to try again with a clean install of 1.5 after I delete all Amiga emulation files from my hard drive.

Keep up the great work!
