Help rebuild Nectarine

Every facet of the Amiga experience is a valuable historical resource. Now, one of the best is GONE. Our house worked, studied, cooked, and slept by Nectarine, and some doofus whacked their server and it's GONE. There are several people trying to do something about it; here is one:

What I want to know is why is it that jerks like that can get access to such bad doings software to do bad things to good people, but nice people like me can't even drive the speed limit without getting a ticket for obeying the law. (Or any other example you like where good people are hindered or threatened by the system.)

perhaps there's some recovery tool he could use... this is a total pity :-( I hate those retarded people who destroy the creative work of others.

Agreed.  I understand that hacking may be fun and exciting and all, this is just plain vandalism.  Really pissed me off.

As for recovery, IIRC Nectarine ran on Windows?  I don't know how Windows deletes files, but he should be able to recover the files?

If the delete was just like recycle bin delete or quick format style delete, then the files are recoverable. Whether or not the file names will be intact is another thing sometimes I've seen, which is odd. Hopefully he hasn't been writing to those disks in the mean time. Sure, though, files have been recovered under several layers of overwriting, but those were grad students doing their thesis work. If that sort of thing was commercial by now, I'd charge loads for it since it's high techy stuff. So, I'd say if he needs that sort of recovery then the files are lost forever because I'm guessing he doesn't have that sort of money.

Hackers are idiots when they destroy things and cause other nuisances. I am currently runing a competition on my company website and earlier in the week, a script kiddy put something in place which was entering the competition about 50 times/minutes. We soon realised and whilst IT investigated and did something, I changed the order of the answers, so at least the script was getting the wrong answer, and we wound't have to look for them when selecting the winner. In total, this script hit our site about 18,000 times.

part of the long winded reading on there says that the second time the script kiddy attacked he deleted the backups. i guess a better question is why people don't get their backups off-site.  :roll:
