LCD Monitor
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:14:12 AM »
Hello!

I'm brand new to this site and really excited about the A600 i just recieved in the post! I was wondering if someone knows if it's possible to hook the thing up to an LCD monitor? Can someone advise what kind of hardware/accessories i'm going to need for this? The monitor in question is a ViewSonic VP171b.

Something like this could be used.

Do you have SCART in Finland, if so find a TV box with SCART and get an Amiga 23 pin to scart cable and you should be ready to go.

I've been discussing this with one of my friends. He mentioned that the easiest thing might be to get a monitor which is supposed to be a TV too, which would have a SCART socket that I could connect directly to the 23-pin socket on the Amiga, which would use the RGB signal and gives a pretty crisp result. However, he said he has a vague feeling that the A600 has some advanced graphics modes which are higher resolution or higher frequency than the standard TV modes supported on the A500, and the direct SCART solution probably won't work for those. Is this true? Can someone comment on this?

Does anyone know if the Amiga 600 does S-Video output natively? or am I stuck with composite?

On this whole LCD business, I think I keep hearing that you need a scan doubler because nothing these days will display the natural Amiga refresh rates.

you don't have to spring for the cost of a scan doubler.

the A600 has TV out, Composit out, and RGB out. no S/VHS without some moding or an adapter...

if you can use the RGB out, thats the best option. i think there is an RGB to S/VHS adapter somewhere out there, but otherwise, get a good RGB to Scart lead and plug it into a cheap 17" flatscreen TV.

to be honest, i've got an "old" Sony trinitron tube CRT that runs a beautifull picture off of the lowly composit output from a 1200...

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

yes, A600 has ECS chipset which supports some VGA compatible screenmodes. You can not view them on a standard TV, but you can use them on a VGA compatible display (LCD). However, for most purposes they are unused, I mean games, demos etc only use TV compatible screenmodes. You can use the ECS screenmodes in workbench, they're good for that but the productivity color depth was limited to 4 AFAIR.
