Mediator on A1200/030
« on: September 03, 2008, 12:38:42 PM »
Has anyone here had any success using a Mediator 1200 LT4 on an A1200 with a 68030?

I havn't managed to get my Mediator set up yet, but I have been told by some people that the Mediator will not work with the 030 and that the CPU caches have to be disabled resulting in slowness and others have told me that it will work just fine.

I would be pleased to know of other people's experiences.

Cheers
Steve

It only lasted a while as I sold my Blizz IV to get a 1260 back then, but iirc, the few times I booted up my miggy with Blizz IV and Mediator (with Voodoo 3 2000 and SB 128), I had no major troubles that I didn't have later with the 1260 on. So, at least for Blizzard IV, I'm pretty confident Mediator works ok, albeit not too fast. Faster than AGA of course, regarding RTG gfx....In that case SB audio might be an overkill on 030 through AHI as AHI has that nice Paula DMA mode that uses less CPU than the rest. You still can get a nice 800x600 or 1024x768 16bit workbench though and a fast ethernet card and maybe you may find a second hand spider usb with registered poseidon, I've seen a few poping up on ebay at times. Dunno how good a tv tuner would work on 030, but I suppose it'd be ok as it shouldn't burden the CPU too much.

Hopefully someone else who has spent more time on such a config can confirm what I said.

Oh! And mine is an upgraded Mediator 1200 not LT4, but they're supposed to have the same functions, so....

Only ever used a Mediator SX with an 030 but it worked fine.
TV card will be fine as their is no CPU usage.
I used with a Voodoo 5500, Spider II, Fortmedia Audio card, Ethernet card all worked fine.

Can any of you people who have used a Mediator on an 030 remember how you set it up?

On Saturday, we got as far as putting a monitor in the Monitors draw, renaming it to VooDoo and changing some of it's settings, then after rebooting, it seemed to crash somewhere after SetPatch.

However, when I tried to set it up myself earlier this year I got further than this and it booted up fine, but I never got anything to recognise my VooDoo.

I will have another play with it and take note of exactly what happened.

you need to install picasso96 for your graphics card to work, preferably from os3.5/3.9, read the instructions carefully, or it wont work

read the mmcd manual to setup your mediator.
