CD Writer software for Workbench 1.3 ?
« on: August 24, 2003, 08:52:11 AM »
Hi again,

Does anyone know if there is CD writer software available for Workbench 1.3?  I have an Amiga 2000HD with 1 meg of Chip RAM and 8 megs of Fast RAM.  I have a 1 Gig SCSI Hard Drive attached to an A2091 Controller.  It is set up as ID # 0 and is terminated.  I also installed a Yamaha 4416 SCSI CD Read / Writer drive.  It is set up as ID # 1 and is not terminated.  My Motherboard is Revision 6.2 and has the 1 meg Agnes and the Super-Denise.  I also install the Amber board (A2320).  I removed the Kickstart 2.04 ROM and replaced it with a Kickstart 1.3 ROM for game compatibility.  I have over 600 vintage Amiga games.  All my games have had the copy protection removed so that they put less wear and tear on my Disk Drives and they can be very easily installed to a Hard Drive.  I would like to record all 600 of these games to a CD-R.  To do that I need the following software from Aminet:  AmiCDFS and MessyDOS (latest versions).  My Amiga 2000HD does not yet have access to the internet.  So if someone would be willing to mail to me these 2 programs on an Amiga formatted 880k disk, I would mail to you a CD-R with all 600 of my games.  The CD-R will be burned on my Pentium 4 computer and will be an ISSO 9660 CD.  I have to first get all 600 games over to my PC (that's why I need these 2 programs).  PLEASE HELP ME !

Why don't you buy or build a kickswitcher?

If you make it yourself, just bend pins 11 out from both chips, stack them on top of each other, then wire a switch that selects either chip's pin 11 and connects it to pin 11 on the socket.

Then you can create a multiboot wb by taking the version of exec.library and if it isn't 37, you execute the 1.3 startup, else execute the 2.04 startup.. :-)

You'll need to have the system files inside a different directory and then reassign sys: and the rest inside that dir. :-)

You most likely won't find a 1.3 compatible burning tool.

Now that was a very messy post from me, but this space isn't enough to explain it in full detail.. You might want to do some research on the subject before you do anything. Aminet hard/hacks and www.google.com are your friends.

I just need someone to mail to me AmiCDFS and MessyDOS on an Amiga 880k disk, then I CAN burn these 600 classic Amiga video games to an ISSO 9660 CD-R.  Who ever helps me with this will get a BIG REWARD !     :-D

I have to first get all 600 games over to my PC (that's why I need these 2 programs).

The easiest solution would be a serial cable and a terminal proggy on both sides. So you can transfer every program you need.
PS : the serial connection has to be made via NULLMODEM cable.

@DoomMaster

I may be missing something here but how will AmiCDFS and MessyDOS help you transfer the games from the Amiga to the PC?

AmiCDFS is a read-only CD file system, it won't allow you to write discs.

To write CDs on the Amiga you need one of MasterISO, MakeCD or BurnIT. AFAIK all these programs need at least Amiga OS 2.x.

I suppose that once you have the ability to read CDs on the Amiga you will be able to download other Amiga programs on the PC and thransfer them via CD.

As someone else suggested I think the best option would be to transfer the games to the PC via serial transfer and then burn them there.

Here's one that might help you, if you still have the AmigaBasic disk:

http://amiga.nvg.org/warlock/wartrans/

Nice, easy and low-cost (all you need is just the serial cable)

Hi Robert (rhino),

MessyDOS will be used to transfer the amiga disks (folders with the files) to 720k PC disks.  Once I copy all 600 game disks over to my PC, I will use my Pentium 4 computer's Mitsumi CD-RW drive to burn the game disks to an ISSO 9660 CD.  The PC does a better job at CD burning then the Amiga (sorry Amiga fans).  Then with the AmiCDFS installed on my Amiga 2000HD I can read that CD that I burned with my powerful Pentium 4 PC   :-P

You may find a useful reading in a recently published article on how to burn CDs without a powerful Pentium 4 PC ;-)

Transfering 600 disks one by one, needs a lot of patience... (20kb/sec). Maybe you should try to transfer them directly with the serial cable (saves you a lot of disk swapping on both parts).

Wouldn`t it be quicker and easier to buy a Catweasel card for the PC, so that Winblows can read the amiga disks?
On schedule, and suing

I can't see why you just don't put the 2.04 ROM back in for a while  :-?

Uhh...I don't know any software that would work on 1.3 that would even read a CD, never mind write one. Sorry. CD-R hadn't been invented when 1.3 was out.

You are WRONG! AmiCDFS works with Workbench 1.3.

From AmiCDFS guide (v.2.40).

AmigaOS2.0 and 2.1 or above.

Ciao

PS- your problem is a common problem for user that hasn't an Internet connection.

Even if you decide to link the PC to the Amiga through the serial port, how can you transfer the SerNet program on Amiga? . . .you need a friend with an Amiga connected to the net.

-edit- Sorry . . .WarTrans, as suggested by Cass, is perfect for your files transfer.

Thank you. I feel insulted, and don't feel like helping you from now on.
