What's the future of Amiga after the lawsuit ?
« on: August 28, 2008, 12:56:00 AM »
Will there be new hardware or will we still be stuck running outdated equipment? Are there any plans for new amiga hardware ???? What would be the chances of officially releasing os4.x for a Mac? Could it be possible to port os4.X to x86 architecture?

I truly believe we are at a point that Microsoft has pissed off enough people that there is a GOLDEN opportunity for Amiga to once again become mainstream.
Amiga 4000D Cyberstorm PPC 150Mhz, 68060 50 Mhz, 128Meg Ram, IndivisionAGA, Deneb USB Controller, Zorram 256, Os3.9/Os4.0 Classic
Amiga 3000T Warp Engine 4040, Elbox FastATA Controller, Progressive Perpherals ProRam3000 64Meg, Mediator, VoodooIII, Os3.9

@don27dog

Very good questions.  If you do a search on each of your questions I think you will find some very good information pertaining to each one.  The answers are within past threads already discussed to some extent or another. :-D

Actually I am not. What I know of the Amiga history I know from wikipedia. From there I read that Amiga first had some agreement with Atari, then was bought by Commodore. The boss of Commodore left Commodore and bought Atari and took with him many people from Commodore. Commodore tried to block the next computer by Atari and Atari found the agreement it had with Amiga and therefore they took each other to court.

That is the only lawsuit I know of! Was there another?

 Imagine a lawsuit taking TWENTY years...

(They're referring to the lawsuit of Amiga vs. Hyperion concerning the rights to OS4.)

If the outcome will be favourable to Hyperion, I believe OS4.1 will be quickly released for the Sam440. A finished and legal Moana loader will possibly surface, and if ACube is designing new motherboards OS4 might be released for those too.

I found a good article on this here:
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071204-under-the-shadow-of-lawsuits-amiga-development-goes-on.html

From how some people are talking it seems that it is better for the lawsuit to be won by Hyperion. Although personally I believe it is hard unless Amiga Inc. filed for bankruptcy! (However I am no lawyer!)

This is just a personal opinion and in no way I would want to offend the good people working at Amiga Inc. However I personally find it hard to see the 'Amiga' brand name related to software. For me an Amiga is hardware so I would expect Amiga Inc. to put more money on building computer and devices rather then just software... I could be wrong however!

Have you been living in a  cave.  I susgest you look up the fecking mess Amiga INC in its various forms has caused over the last 8 years, or whatever it is.

You seem to have missed everything Amiga related since way before they went bankrupt

Of course I did! I just found my A500+ a month ago and got back interested to the Amiga world again. I know different companies miserably tried to launch Amiga computers. What I meant was that the majority of Amiga stuff out there is Hardware based, so I personally find it hard to understand why Amiga Inc. is completely concentrated on the software aspect.

They have nothing else but the name Amiga and a few bits of software to their credit ...
