Slow gvp 030 combo ¡help please!
« on: August 26, 2008, 07:20:22 PM »
Hi!
I've attached to my cpu slot a gvp 030 combo @ 40 Mhz in one of my two A2K and it works too slowly , sysinfo says it works like a basic A1200. showconfig shows 030 & fpu Jumpers seems to be ok on accelerator. something to change on motherboard?.
System is a rev 6.2. KS31, A2091, A2090, superdenise, 4 Mb ram expansion card and OS 3.9.

Other question.
sistem has 2mb (A2091) + 4MB ram expasion + ram on gvp030
only shows 2 mb of fast, Why?
 :-?

Thanks

According to your description, GVP combo works well in another A2K ?

RAM issue could be solved by running GVP Info utility located on GVP Install disk. Program is able to report various HW components, including origin of FAST RAM - you will get HW ID of manufacturer next to board which added memory to an active RAM pool.

Maybe it's too soon for any dare conclusions, but you might have a Zorro RAM address space collision. If you miss that GVP utility, remove that 4Mb expansion and temporary disable A2091 RAM, that should make troubleshooting a bit easier.

yes works in another a2k. I don't think about card conflicts, good idea!, i'll try you say tonight...
GVP utility works fine it makes ram test and it's ok fpu and others.

Thanks Lockon_15

Please post if you find an answer. I've got the same card with the same problem, it actually takes a couple of minutes to boot vs. a few seconds for another machine with a Fusion Forty.

Thanks,

Just a thought...
The 030 combo has 4 megs onboard without any simms (at least mine does!) I suspect the 4 meg expansion card is cancelling out the 4 megs on the combo card, leaving the 2 megs on the 2091. You're only allowed 8 megs of fastram.
When the ram conflict is resolved, the combo should run at proper speed (leaving out the 2091 scsi card would do it and leave a nice 8 megs of fastram)
Or possibly the two scsi cards are conflicting? Either way, leave out that 2091 and I figure problem solved.

Why do you need a 2091 scsi card with a GVP 030 combo? It has scsi onboard. That's the point, right?
Maybe I'm missing something....

Anyway, hope you get it solved.

He not only has an A2091, but also an A2090 in the same A2000. The reason why he is using the A2090 when he already has a (much better) A2091 is not clear to me.

And with the GVP 030 card inside the A2000, both the A2091 and A2090 indeed seem to be redundant. The A2091 is a fine controller, especially with the latest SCSI-chip, roms and 2 MB ram onboard. It's a good expansioncard for a basic A2000, but when you already have a turbocard with a SCSI-hostadapter on board, the choice is easy.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Hi!
I can't try any solution you post yet. A 2090 and 2091 maybe redundant (A2090 will put out), but I've got two HD's, two FD and SCSI CD-rom ther is no place for it, so one hd is fifted to A2091 card and other where i can. That's the reason. The GVP HD is no bootable (only for programs&files) the boot on it is disabled.
I'll try put out 4 MB expansion card and boot and without A2090 even disabling 2MB en A2091 too to see what happens.
I'll tell you my experience.

Thanks to all

 Obvious problem:

You are passing the 8Mb Zorro memory space and you don't need 3 SCSI controllers on the same machine.

To really solve it: buy another SCSI cable with enough connectors plus one for active terminator. Take the 2090 and 2091 cards out. Create a folded plastic thick enough to hold the two "remaining" HD over the Zorro slots. Remember you need to use just one different SCSI ID on each drive (remember to take the terminator resistor packs on all disks!).
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
