A3000 SCSI Replacement Chip

Restoring my A3000 and like to finally get rid of the PROTO WD33C93 chip.  Found this one on eBay

Will this do the trick?  I have already scavenged my local PC junk stores and cant find any 33C93 based SCSI boards.  Or if anyone knows a cheaper place to find one, I was only able to find one $1 cheaper w/ $50 minimum order...

 The "PROTO" label means nothing, but if you really want a chip without the label, go for it.

Oh, I thought these PROTO chips contained bugs and rev.8 models fixed some issues.

Yeah, that's an old 02 chip, probably as old (or older) than what's in your A3000 now.

I feel dumb now...  Wasn't certain what the revision number was on that chip.  Thanks for clarifying for me.

The one you want should say -08 (although, it may still say PROTO-08 it's still good).

If the SCSI on your 3000 works without problem it's a waste of $ upgrading to a 08.  I upgraded my 04 to a 08 and had SCSI errors so went back to the older chip. Problems with the old SCSI chip normaly show up with removeable media.

I wouldn't give up my 08 chip.  In my opinion it is the most useful of the upgrade chips.  I would go back to the Buster 09 from the 11 before I would give up the SCSI 08.  I have never heard of anyone before having more problems with the newer 08 chip.  I would give up the newer DMAC & Ramsey chips before I would the newer SCSI!  JMHO

The last one on eBay sold for over $60 US.  I'd rather buy a Buddha IDE card for that price and just leave a single drive on the scsi chain.

Buddha IDE card is £37inc VAT in the UK from Amigakit. Trying to get the US price and a link for you but the site looks like it is having issues at the moment.

What problems are you having with the old SCSI chip?  

When I ran my BBS I had 2 internal HDs, 4 external HDs, and a 7 CD changer, all with the 04 SCSI chip.  The only real problem I had were sometimes I'd need to power things on in a specific sequence.

My main problems are cdrom drives.  I have tried the few I have on my 3000 and the disk usually will be unreadable.  If I put the same drives on my TrumpCard Pro I have no problems at all.  So I just assumed that the 04 chip was the cause of the problems.

You might want to try idefix97 from Aminet.  It helps with SCSI problems also.  I was having similar problems as you on one of my A2000's and nothing I did seemed to help.  Someone here on Amiga.org told me to try the idefix97 and I was thinking probably the same thing as you "I have a SCSI problem, not an ide problem".  Well it took care of my SCSI problem and I was sold on the program.  It's just an idea but it might work.
