A1200 Power Supply Question
« on: August 04, 2008, 09:03:55 AM »
I have my A1200 running nicely now with a Blizzard 603 + BVision all off an AT PSU, however it only powers up propery (full green light) when the PSU floppy cables are plugged in directly to the motherboard next to the floppy.

I presume that the motherboard can't carry the right amount of current over to power the blizzard 603 + bvision correctly?

If this is true (and please tell me if its not) then is it ok to take the +12 and +5v (and ground) rails over directly from the power supply socket on the motherboard, straight over to the floppy mainboard connector and power it that way, or will it do damage somewhere?

Trying to make it as neat as possible - don't want to have 2 power connectors on the outside of my desktop case if I can help it :)

some will advise to feed extra power at the floppy conector.

my extra power feed is done by picking up the 5v rail near the power point socket & soldering a wire to the floppy connect 5v rail on the underside of the A1200 motherboard to avoid to many wires/clutter.

Great! Thanks for the information. I was wondering if that would work.
@delshay
I'm looking forward to updates to your A1200 "Project Fury"!

Is it just the 5v rail that needs going over or do i need to take ground and the 12v rails too? Really dont fancy 2 power cables going in to the amiga desktop if I can help it...

remember clean power & cooling is the key to getting Blizzppc/Bvision to work in a desktop.

you must add extra fans to keep it cool or you may find your Blizzard PPC not working one day. you must also take into account hot summer months.

I wonder if extra fan on PPC chip might do some damage, because of vibrations and that fragile BPGA
Better sorry than worry.

Just the 5V and GND - I don't think the 12V is needed there. Usually it helps to run thicker wires directly from the power connector to the larger loads.
