I admit that WHDLoad is a nice piece of software,
but not all WHDLoad games work flawless on expanded
Amiga's. With WinUAE it's even with more errors.

Yep, but in my case i'm looking for installs that could be run on a 1Meg A500 with HD. I'm looking to give this computer some functionallity, and not being depending of the floppy stuff.

I do agree WHDLoad is a great thing, and really useful, i do use it without problems in my A1200 030.

Yes, I remember trying several (crackers') installers but as my gear was A500 and later A4000 and  most of the installers were for A1200 the success rate was miserable.

Try getting original games or uncracked adf's if you just want to install.
As has been pointed out most NDOS games won't have an installer, but there is still a fair amount games that do.

I tried to install several original games with WHDLoad such as "The Killing Game Show". It failed on every Amiga I have ánd WinUAE. WHDLoad gives repeatedly strange errors
when trying to install. This is not the case with all
games, but it does happens sometimes.
I succeeded to install and run several games without WHDLoad just using the "CPU NOBURST NOCACHE" command and with help from little programs like RunIt or Run500.

Sorry for grabbing this old thread, but the content is very interesting.

I like WHDLoad, I own a copy of it, but I don't like OS2.x/3.x, I prefer 1.3. It looks familiar to me, no other Amiga-OS does this.

Therefore I would like to run the games directly from HD with an installed Workbench 1.3.

I do not understand why WHDLoad needs Kick 2.x in oder to Re-Kick 1.3 to be compatible to the old games. If I already have Kick 1.3 in hardware in the machine, why is it not used. There must be some reasons why WHDLoad needs Kick 2.x.

The Atari-ST users do not have such problems because the HDD-ports work with mostly all Tos-Versions and all machines, from a simple ST to a Falcon or TT.
The HDD-Projects are very nice and the are mostly no dependencies.

I would like to have something similar on the Amiga.

Some posts above someone told about "Aminet-Installers", and other "tools" to run the games from HDD without the need of WHDLoad and therefore no Kick 2.x and above.

There is an old version of JST that runs with 1.3, but I don't know where to get this old version and are there any chances to get old games to work with this?

Would be nice if the persons above would share their knowlegde und perhaps put some links to the software they talked about.

Thx

WHDload is not the only hard drive installer.

There are JST (although most have been WHDloaded now) and Girv and lots of one-off-hacks.

Best to post the names of the games and let us tell you if an installer actually exists.

Yep, that's JST, it's an alternative to WHDL, but i remember there were specific installers released by crack teams back in time. The only problem for JST is the same WHDL has, needs 2mb or more. Back in time i remember seeing installers that only required 1mb to run.

Maybe the ones that were removed from Aminet.  :-?

Tell me more about "specific installers released by crack teams back in time"
I never heard about that. Are there any special "words" to search for these installers?
