OctaMED 1.03d Save Bug
« on: August 21, 2003, 12:17:54 AM »
Has anyone been able to save a module and successfully be able to reload it with the new version by Gerd?

Just ran into this 'bug' when trying to reload a module that I edited...gives the 'Unrecognised File Format' error (and trying to load it as an ST-module results in either gibberish or crashes)

Anyone???

I'm just curious if this a bug, something wrong with my setup, or intentionally programmed to disable the save feature?

Can anyone verify this?

Just tried to do so:

It saves the file ok, but when you try to reload I get the 'Unrecognised File Format' error.

I also tried to load the edited/saved module with another program (delitracker), but nothing done...

Yep...I'm getting scrambled Hex reads too...I've tried saving as V5 and above, V3, etc. and that hasn't made a difference either, nor has fiddling with the compression settings.

Unfortunately, the MED website doesn't give any contact info to report this to Gerd.

I would like to think that if he intentionally 'diasbled' the save feature that he could have at least given warning in the readme that saving over old modules could and will destroy them.

Thanks for the reply, Cass...at least I can put my mind a bit more to ease that it's probably not anything crooked in my setup.

It isn't working here either.  Have you tried the email address listed in the "about" requester?  Or is that too obvious? :-D

So, it's not just me?

Glad I only lost 2 hours of new work.  Guess I'll have to start again, maybe using the old executable...

Damnit!  I think the "crash when more than the standard window is opened on loading and the about requester tries to appear at the same time as the system is moving the OMSS screen to the front" defect had been fixed, too.

Maybe there'll be a fix soon?

Doh! Always in the 'most obvious' of places to check.  I didn't think to check the "about" window...

Thanks for pointing it out...

Sorry guys, just saw this. I have the same problem.
I posted a note to the OMSS yahoo group about it.

I also noticed some other stuff but I can't remember it just now (at work). I'll try to post something on it later.

Gerd just posted an update to the OSS ML:
--
A BIG SORRY to all musicians out there for the problems with saving!

Another good time to make backups of all your stuff! AGAIN SORRY!

It really seems this bug belongs to the optimizer settings of the
compiler, possible the other new bugs too. Currently dont know as
I dont have the time to check it out.

There were absolutely no changes made within all the musical stuff
in OMSS so I thought there should be no problems too! Sh**!

Only some OS related things were added resp. changed when the
regarding sources got lost but this is only true for some minor
                special cases.

I will release a new executable as soon as possible!!!

                Regards,

                Gerd

Hope this helps.
