CD ROM drive mounting
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:54:49 PM »
Newbie Question Alert!

I have just added an old SCSI IBM CD ROM drive to my 3000T.
How do I get it to mount?
I am currently running OS 3.0.

The jumper settings are:
Term power ON
Termination ON
Sector Size OFF
Parity ON
ID 4

Thanks.
Aloha!

Well...
For starters, is the scsi chain properly set up?
and does the CD-rom (and ALL other units) show up in your scsi tools?

If so you just need a mountlist and a cd filesystem...

In the mountlist the scsi device and the ID of cd-rom should be inserted, as well as the cd filesystem. And of course the cd filesystem must be in the L drawer of the WB install....

Mahalo for the reply.
I've been trying to figure this out but no joy.

The SCSI chain is set with the internal HD first in line after the controller and the CDROM last.
It is terminated.

When I open HD tools it sees the HD and CDRom but lists the CD as unknown.

I cannot find a mountlist anywhere!

There is only one driver in Dev/DOSDrivers.  PIPE
And 4 in Storage/DOSDrivers.  AUX,PC1,PC0 and RAD.

Told you it was a newbee question!

Many thanks for the help.

IF you are using a Workbench version <3.5 (any version from 2.xx trough 3.1), download and install IDEfix97 from aminet.

It will create the CD mountlist and file system for you.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Wish I could but until I get my CDRom working I can't load the software for my new X-Surf board or transfer the prog over from my Mac.

How do you say Catch22!

I also have a new Deneb but can't load that software because i don't have the installer in my system :headwall:

Can you not format a 720kb floppy disc in CrossDOS on the mggy, download idefix97 onto it using the MAC, then take the floppy disc back to the miggy?

Any chance of run winblows on your Mac?

If so, it's easy to use Amiga Explorer via a serial null cable to transfer things between Amiga and your computer (needs a serial port on the Mac, too).

Don't have a floppy drive for the Mac.

Yep ... I actually have AF2008 but no serial port. It's a new MacBook Pro.

I have been twisting this thing every which way to get stuff on the miggy.
Guess the floppy idea is best...just get a cheap USB drive for the Mac.
Just seems so wasteful when after one or two uses I'll be connected via USB and Network!

Like I said...anyone for some Catch...22

Many mahalos for all your help guys.

hah. i would have agreed with you a few years ago, when I was in the same position of needing a floppy drive with my G4 tower and finding usb the only option, but now I'm really glad to have a floppy drive that will work with anything. get a teac, that's what I have, and it's been recognized by more types of machines than I can recall. :) seriously, i needed mine just today when doing a windows reinstall for a relative - she has sata and no floppy drive and I needed to load a driver floppy!  :-o

Amiga Explorer knows more than a way to take fur from the cat.:-)

You can buy a USB bluetooth serial dongle. And a bluetooth for the Mac.

Yep I guess it would be a fairly cheap but good investment over time.

And then format the floppy on my miggy with CrossDOS eh?

Yep a nice alternative as my Mac has BT, but gotta get the Deneb running first.

Cheers guys

Time to get yourself an external floppy drive me thinks ... It makes life just that little bit more easier when it comes to file transfers between machines  :-)

OK...got the floppy.
Found one at the local electronics recycling event  :-)

What is the correct procedure and what type disc (880kb or 1.44 etc) should I be using?

I'm gonna start a new thread for this question....trust that's cool.
