Finally got my XBOX running WINUAEX

UAEX is nice. In fact I install Amiga emulators on whatever platform I can. But nothing beats the real thing (tm) though :-)

I no longer have my 1000, it stopped working about 2 years ago. I moved to a different city, where me and my best friend live in an apartment. He has a 500 in really good shape but does not want it used so it stays in good condition. However I had given him a lot of software for it, and I still have my Amiga WB/Extras disks 1.3.

My old xbox was getting cranky with its cd-rom and all, ports stopped working in the front, I have a controller "hardwired" to the motherboard to work. I thought I'd make use of WINUAEX on it since my Amiga was the first computer I ever used. (which was back in 1990/1991) (I was 5!)  So that is "why" and it seems to be more compatible (the emulator) than the MAXUAE on my best friends iMac which a lot of the Amiga Basic programs won't run and there is no sound. I am still fully versed in Amiga Basic, even after all these years, I still love to program in it. Not very useful in the real world I know, but for me to have fun, it's worth it for me. :-)  :-D

the Xbox is great for emulation and homebrew, I got mine set up as a full media center using XBMC so I can stream music, movies, youtube and also installed several emulators to allow me to play snes, nes, gameboy, Amiga, arcade games etc.

I only wish the more recent consoles had a homebrew/emulation scene as good as the original xbox.

I agree there is no substitute to real Amigas but emulation is a lot more convenient, even more so on the Xbox

I must agree. I softmodded my xbox so it didnt cost me a penny, no need to chip it, or buy a certain version of a certain game to do game save exploits.

XBMC is the best media centre software I have ever used.  And I run XPMC and VISTAMC on other machines, and they dont come close.

MAME runs really well on it, though the 64MB is restrictive for some newer games.

SNES emulator and N64 Emulators kick but too.

You can copy games to HDD for really quick loading.

I would recommend everyone pick up an XBOX for £20 and sticck a big HDD in it.  

And I refused to but an XBOX until this year.  So glad I did now.

Yeah, XBMC is fantastic. I have it set up as the default dashboard and running it in HD. Bit of a strain for the old Xbox hardware but still fun to mess with.

Amiga and C64 on a 42" TV lol. I used to dream about that back in the day  :crazy:

I also think that if the Amiga had lived it would be where the PS3 is now.

WHy has you forgotton that. Microsoft make XBOX.  ITs not really windows anyway.

I have never had a BSOD on the XBOX

I did actually try to install Windows98 via BOCHS on the Xbox once...... Ok, it wasnt the XBox running Windows native, but its pretty close and totally unusable (same as on a normal pc ). I thought the windows setup had crashed but it turned out it was just really really slow

In all honesty tho, I did feel dirty for having Amiga software running on MS hardware.  :lol:

OS4 for the PS3 is where we need to go, but I cant see it happening.

I find Winuaex is the most convenient way to play amiga games (not AGA) in the living room because you can have the xbox tucked away under the TV and control the mouse, joystick, and keyboard all through the controller. Plus all the advantages of savestate, cheats, fast floppy etc.

No desktop required!
