EFIKA IDE cable
« on: July 23, 2008, 09:59:36 AM »
The IDE connector on the EFIKA is a female 44-pin. Is there a cable with a male connector on one end to connect to this and allow the connection of IDE devices other than a laptop drive? Or a 44 pin gender changer to allow the use of a normal cable?

@meega
You've really let me down. If you had posted that 29 minutes earlier you would have saved me 32 keystrokes. The bill for wear and tear on my keyboard is in the post.

:-P ;-)

I think you're just trying to boost your post count...

1. You want a part for an industry standard interface that is nigh-on 20 years old...

2. You ask here before searching...

3. You then search...

4. You post a reply to yourself, rather than edit your first post...

5. You bother replying to ME

The invoice for my time is on its way...  :-D

I have just read this thread and its a total waste of time, electricity and waste of bandwidth, not to mention amiga.org resources.

You two will receive the bill from me soon.

To be fair, I looked for a 44 pin gender changer some time ago and couldn't find one.

Thanks! :-) My birthday was actually on Monday but was postponed because my other half wasn't here. So today is my unofficial birthday, so I'm taking all of the birthday liberties today :-D

Just to let you know - AFAIK extending and/or splitting the IDE interface of the Efika is *not* supported in any way. It has something to do with signal strength and/or timing issues and/or some shared shared yada yada with the PCI bus or whatever. In other words, don't do it. If you do, it's on your own risc. The IDE connector is made this way for a reason. :-)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Bugger! Thanks for the info. Does the USB stack support USB CD-ROM drives? If so then I'll connect the drive with an IDE -> USB adapter.

My EFIKA definitely didn't work with even a 2" cable which is rather annoying because the mounting hole on my CF adapter doesn't line up with the HD supports on the EFIKA board so it's just hanging off of the IDE connector. otoh, it didn't break anything to have tried it.

the IDE interface on the EFIKA is weird, I cannot get mine to recognize the second (identical) CF card in my Addonics dual CF to IDE adapter. not that I care much, it's nice having a completely silent computer smaller than a usb hard drive! :)

I got my EFIKA booted up to the MOS boot image so I'll try a USB CD-ROM. I haven't got a CF adapter yet so I can't install the OS.

Are any of the pins on the EFIKA headers for additional USB ports?
