Adapter to get my flatscreen vga whatsit working
« on: August 20, 2003, 08:31:41 AM »
Hi.  What is the 'adapter' that I need to connect my vga monitor to my a4000?  The closest adapter I've come across was a 9pin female to a 25pin male and the video connector on the amiga is 23pin...
Does anyone have or know where to find an adapter I can use?  i realise it limits me to a few screen modes but thats fine for what i want to use it for.
Thanks.   8-)

Uhm, a 23pin DSUB to 15pin HDSUB cable? ;-)

Anyway, if you get a scandoubler (possibly with flickerfixer) you'll end up NOT limiting the screen modes. A much better idea. I'm using one all the time. I just wish I had a simple way of connecting the Access to it....

you can get those adaptors in every amiga related shop. imho the best solution to your problem would be a gfx card.  :-o

Actually, a gfx card WITH scandoubler for the internal AGA. I wouldn't live without my old games for ANYTHING :-)

In my experience you have to be choosy with monitors and VGA adaptors (not scandoubled). I've
tried Compaq and HP CRT screens on mine and they can't sync to the Amiga refresh rate. On the other hand Philips CRTs work fine. I'm guessing that flat screens are even more choosey about what you feed them. These problems would probably disappear with a scandoubler.

if it´s a stock a4000, i´d prefer a cybervision. if you can use pci take a voodoo3. if you´ve got a ppc board, take the ppc gfx card.

The simplest thing is a Commodore adaptor. It is a chromed 23-pin to 15-pin thing that plugs into the video connector and allows the VGA cable to plug into it. Inside it has a single buffer chip that buffers the sync signals (IIRC), while the video signals are passed through.

Mine has the Commodore part No 390682-01. I don't know if they're still available, though.

A video card is the best bet, if you want to spend money on your machine.

Get yourself an Amiga 2000HD from eBay for less then $100.00.  Then plug in an A2320 (Amber) board into the video slot.  I picked up my A2320 on eBay for $35.00.  Then you can hook up any VGA or SVGA monitor to your Amiga 2000HD.  I have a new ViewSonic 17" Flat-Panel display hooked up to my Amiga 2000HD.  It looks really AWESOME!  You can still play all of your games and use all of your software.  I am glad to see that someone else, besides myself, has a professional Amiga (2000, 2000HD, 2500, 1500, 3000, 3000T, 4000, and 4000T).  I get so sick of seeing all these people with those toy Amigas (500, 500+, 600, and 1200) thinking that they are in the same ball park as us people that own the more professional Amigas.  They are NOT even close!  The Amiga 2000, 3000, and 4000 RULES !   :-D

@DoomMaster

Sorry but . . .the guy already has an A4000 and you suggest him to purchase an ancient and used A200HD!!!

My suggestion is to find an used CyberVision64 or 643D (better with its ScanDoubler FF) on eBay for about 100-120 USD.

Ciao
