RGB Scart and black screen
« on: July 22, 2008, 11:13:09 PM »
I recently found a rgb scart for my A1200, but putting it onto a couple tv's just gives a black screen. it looks like pin 16 of the scart has not been connected correctly, and i cant manually change the tv's into 'rgb mode'.

As i do not have the skills to open it all up and fix myself, i was wondering if there are any cheats, or something cheap i can buy, to force the tv to change so i can see whats going on !

Is there anyone who can suggest something?

Thanks,

Derf

if this is what you were on about, then that picture is not 100% correct.

scart pin 16 needs +1-3V to comply with specifications, so this picture *might* work, but anyway, it is not going to help me as im not opening the cable up and soldering anything! i dont want to kill it!

strange, I have never seen a TV that can't manually switch to RGB/composite/svideo.. are you sure it can do RGB?

I would check if Amiga outputs 12Volts on the relevant pin.
(There should be a fuse for Amiga video connector and it might be blown, that's what I had in two A2000 and A520 RF modulator wouldn't work)

Better sorry than worry.

yes it can go rgb as the dvd player is set to rgb, and the osd on the tv says it is in rbg mode, but when i swap over the scart, it goes into cvbs mode and there is no way to swap it manually on the 2 tv's i have. 1 crt and 1 lcd.

pin 16 of the scart is not connected at all, so i have 2 options i suppose. find someone who can re-do the cable properly or get a tv which i can manually change to rgb.

anyone have any other ideas? (besides shouting at the person who i got it from ;-))

You can actually use a SCART switcher....

The SCART switch box that I've got tie the RGB line common to all the inputs, and has an "RGB" button. When you press it it connects the RGB from all the inputs to the correct pin on the TV. I imagine it's the same on most cheap switchers with an RGB button.

I've used this way to connect my Sprinter (a Russian "super-Spectrum" computer 99.999% of people have never heard of) to my Sony TV which only enables RGB mode when the correct pin is set high, and also when I was using my A1500 which lacks +5V on the video port (I think I wired the cable to +12V instead - still inside specifications).

Sorry in advance, going to hijack the thread temporarily by saying I'm one of the 0.001% who's heard of the Sprinter! Any good? Are they still being made? Was almost tempted to get one when I was still in the UK...

I used to have a Sanyo 21" colour tv hooked to an Amiga 3000 over a standard RGB->SCART cable. I had to modify the cable (connect two pins) in order to get the picture on screen. Without the modification I only got to see the Amiga picture while in teletext mode ;-). Otherwise, just black, deep black.
Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

found this which may do the job, unless anyone else has a better rgb scart switcher.

Thats a good one ... I use the Philex branded version (Argos 534/2361) for all my scart needs.

That's the sort of thing. Mine was a standard £10 job from Tandy's a few years back, but I reckon they're mostly the same inside.

@InTheSand:
They've not been made in ages, and there's hardly any software for them....

... but hey, how can a 4MB RAM 21MHz Spectrum with a hard disk, floppy drive and 256 colour support be bad (as well as compatibility with loads of Spectrum clones like the Pentagon, Scorpion etc).

Sounds good! I should have got one when they were readily available but was concerned about sending money to a relatively unknown Russian company. And zero chance now of finding one in New Zealand!

I'll just have to wait until someone ports a Spectrum core to the Minimig! Here's hoping!
