Looks like an embedded processor to me - the sort of CPU that has all sorts of extra bits like RAM on it too. Doubtful it'll do much good unless it's connected to anything. :)

Check out my shop! http://www.mutant-caterpillar.co.uk/shop/ - for 8-bit (and soon 16-bit) goodness!

You might be able to use it for something like this:

Its an 8051 compatible microcontroller

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_8051
http://www.chipcatalog.com/Cat/496.htm

Used from Keyboards to Serial ports prolly some old network cards too etc. quite versatile.

Shaz
was Enterprise Vault (Its an Exchange Fail!), now its EMC Avamar, Dedupe for mostly everything including brain cells.

It has nothing to do with Amiga. Not that you couldn't interface it one though.

It's an 8-bit microcontroller, just like a PIC or Atmel etc.

It is atmel.

I just dont really understand if it has a purpose.

It was annoying me, i thought it could be something exciting.

If you wish to build a robot, house hold alarm system etc it is an exciting thing.  If you got a prototyping ket from atmel it could be hooked up via serial to your amiga or pc then with the right modem client software aka hyperterminal in windows you can "talk" to it.

Its an old but powerful series microcontroller, much like some of the other posts.  Newer Atmel chips are even cooler, built in networking services all kinds of stuff.

Ny hoo this advice will cost you 1 a1200 and the controller :)
