A500 floppy drive into A3000T
« on: July 14, 2008, 09:54:10 PM »
woe is me, my internal HD floppy drive quit, and my external has read errors.  I tried a cleaning floppy to no avail.  SO...I have an old discolored "9" key missing A500, I want to use the floppy drive. the 3kt has orange (red?) 2 blue, and a yellow, the A500 drive has red and black.  someone know how to connect these?

Do you mean the power connector?

Look carefully at the male one (that with the wires). You will notice it have a "base" (larger than the top)...

yes, I have learned yellow is 12v, the 2 blues are gnd, and the red is 5v.  Does the a500 floppy drive want gnd and 5v on the red and black? or 12v, or both and gnd through the case?

With a multimeter, measure the voltage levels on the A500 power connector (attached to the floppy unit) and in the A3000 power connector. Mark the +5V line so you can't plug it backwards (who will destroy the unit).
