The desk is stained and sealed! Now I have to wait 72+ hours for this "fast dry" sealer to dry :-/

http://www.redsretro.com/workshop/shop3.JPG

That desk is almost 12 feet long, can't get the whole thing in a good picture. if I get a chance in the next day or so I will update with some more pics of everything else that has been done. This has been a HUGE project, as you could imagine.

Hey Jim,

I find myself really envious of the computer room you're building.  I'm still using the 9' x 10' third bedroom myself, having not even decided on moving into the larger guest bedroom.

As you can quite imagine, my outside garage is still covered to a depth of about 4 feet with the ex-wife's crap, with me still too emotionally involved to go out there and do the right thing (chuck it all).   I guess I'll have to hire you and Angel to come up here one long weekend and help me get over being stuck then insulate / board it all up for an office.. :)

I did however -- for the record -- hollow out an 8' x 12' space for the bike, which is all I really need right now.

Wayne

In your place I'd think the 2nd bedroom would be a better starting point than the garage, would take much less work. The garage would work, but adding A/C and the bump in electrical usage would be significant.

As for taking a trip up there, it'd be nice for a social visit and to get away for a while. I probably won't be able to make a trip for a while though :-/

Nice work Red, it's always interesting to see someone else's computer[room] setup.

Maybe others can also upload their pics to their album to be able to link to them in their new blog.

It would make interesting reading. :D

Then we can maybe vote on the best setup in another thread or poll. What dya think?

I haven't finished my garage conversion and forgot to take before and during pics but I will try to upload some when it is finished. I know Mine Will Rock.

Who said comparing willy sizes was old fashioned? :lol:

It's nice to be able to get to a point to be able to build out a custom computer room and/or man cave. My bragging was in jest, but a bit of light hearted boasting among friends could give ideas or motivation to improve the space. I'd like to see pics if you take them.

@Smerf

My "Man Cave" is off limits to my wife and kids. Trespassers will be severely dealt with.  :whack:

In my case, there could be some cats missing if any of my toys upped and got lost. :D

Hi,

@mr a500

Know what you mean, about the wife that is, mine threw out my C64, 128, 128D and my Amiga 1000 one day when I wasn't home, that wasn't to bad she also threw out all my software for the C64 and 128 & D. Closest we ever been to the big D. I almost cried about the C64 I had all the switches that a person could want for memory copy, cartridge copy etc. The darn thing had a multitude of switches that I put in. So I went out and bought a new C64 last year, then I asked my wife where were all my mags, guess what she threw those out too!  Women just don't understand about a mans collections, they think that it is all just junk. Never will be able to replace my A1000 though, that had a 2mb memory expansion, supra scsci card and six hard drives, 4 floppy drives, a modem and switches on the front to turn them all on and off, and yes it was put in a old obsolete big Xerox word processing tower. Really was proud of that machine and lets not forget the accelerator a 68010 replacing the 68000 and then the 68030 accelerator that plugged into the 68000 socket

Why couldn't they make women with an off switch?

That's a thought, I may do that. When I originally started this thread was before the new goodies. Maybe I'll move it there.

@Smerf,

I think the Japanese are working on a replacement wife with an on/off switch.  I think it is being designed to have that turn "ON" effect, on the male clients it is aimed at as potential purchasers. :roflmao:

I need to take a picture (a better picture) of the computer desk I made a while ago and submit it for your viewing pleasure.  It is somewhere between 9-11 feet long, has three seating locations with pull out keyboard trays, holds 3 - 20" monitors, two of which are huge crt Toshiba TIMM's and one Dell widescreen LCD.  There are 4 - 1084S monitors above for use as Toaster/Flyer composite monitors for Preview and Live output displays, while the TIMM's are used for the Amiga RGB output of the Toaster/Flyer control screen.  It also serves as a book shelf for the 50 to 75 Amiga books I have and the 25 - 35 VHS training tapes, mostly for Lightwave and Toaster/Flyer training, but some for DPaint, DCTV, Brilliance and maybe a couple of other programs.

All this sits in the big Game Room next to the Pool Table in my MAN CAVE!
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

That was the idea. It would be great to get a variety of pics to compare for inspiration.

Sure. I just need to get over this DIYer's block. Once I' re-start the work on the room I will be sure to take some snaps.

Keep up the momentum. Every man needs his computer hideout. A place to unwind after a hard days work. Seriously great work. I'm probably going to regret trying to compete with that now. :D

It's as easy as clicking on the little icon at the bottom right of any post you want to blog. Very convenient.
