Error using Maxtor in WinUAE as physical Amiga-only drive
« on: July 11, 2008, 12:05:28 PM »
I need help too. I wanna use an existing 3,5" Maxtor on my pc to use as an Amiga harddisc formatted in FFS to use on my A2000 later (don´t ask when). I did the following :

"To get your physical hard drive to work in WinUAE simply launch the emulator using the configuration you like best, insert your Workbench ADFs into the floppies tab and then click the Hard Drives tab, make sure you click "Add PC drives at startup" and press OK to start.
When Workbench loads you will notice that your PC hard drive(s) and CD-ROM(s) are loaded for ya."

Floppies are mounted, HDtoolbox loaded and changed the scsi.device to uaehf.device but no harddrive detected :boohoo: I could install a Workbench onto the Maxtor but that would be in pc mode and that´s not what I want !!!

Fact is that in the configuration menu when I select the harddrive then I get the error "warning : the drive safety check is active. Selected drive is not empty and non-RDB partitionned". I am using WinUAE 1.5.0 and can not uncheck any safety check, wouldn´t know where to find that button.

I have done some searching, even changed the 3.1 roms but same result. All my pc partitions are showing up on Workbench boot, that´s not the problem. I just want to format a 250 Gb Maxotr under FFS, or at least the first 2 Gb to start with ... please give me the clue that I´m missing  :rtfm:

Run WinUAE with the -disableharddrivesafetycheck command line option
Find the shortcut, go to properties, and add ' -disableharddrivesafetycheck' to the end (without the 's, of course. Make sure there is a space between the -dis... and winuae.exe...
And make sure you don't select your windows drive by mistake...

I read the readme, txt that came with this WinUAE but it only contains a massive list of bug fixes and not the thing I need  :boohoo:
Anyway, I did the winuae.exe -disableharddrivesafetycheck thing and now I got the message "
Warning - the drive safety check has been disabled, and non-empty and non-RDB partionned hard discs were detected" ...
I got this error message two more times before Workbench was booted up, but now I can access the Maxtor drive
Thanks guys  :-D
