AREXX via TCP/IP
« on: August 19, 2003, 11:34:16 AM »
This is probably not possible but can you send commands to an AREXX port on a remote computer via TCP/IP. I use Genesis OS3.9 at the moment.
Any wisdom much appreciated.

Maybe, it should be possible but it would require work.

I don't think you just can do a plain arexx port call.

You probably need to have one send-program and one resive-program on the remote computer that execute the call to a ARexx port.

Hmm.. no but thats a very cool idea. I might work on a program to export ARexx ports across a LAN.

(note the word "might" ;-) )

Thought it might be unimplemented. I was hoping you could redirect to AmiTCP: arexx_port...

Sounds dangerous. All somebody has to do is spoof a LAN ip and send the following command to your ARexx, and you're screwed:

ADDRESS COMMAND "C:Delete SYS:#? ALL QUIET FORCE"

Well, you'd be an idiot not to firewall that port, and it'll say so clearly in the guide.

Besides, I might make it so you have to authenticate yourself first with a password, like:

Address Amiga4000
remote-login username password

Address Amiga4000-DOPUS.1
[...]

And different users will have different permissions.

All my software is freeware, although if I've spent a lot of time on something I do encourage donations (as mentioned in the guide of SuperTV). So far I have received exactly zero donations, but we live in hope :-)

Yes . My 1200s have the best firewall there is (they don't have an internet connection).
