My parents bought my Amiga 500 in 1989 from a friend of my mother who had upgraded to a big box Amiga...guess it was an Amiga 2000
It was a plain kick 1.x A500, a week later I got myself Commodore's 512k RAM expansion  :-D

I got my A500 for my birthday around April 1991 from the computer section of V&D, a Dutch department store, for the princely sum of 1000 guilders (approx 450 euros).

Then, when we got home I realized I needed an A501 RF modulator (not included) and had to go back and buy one for the rip off price of 100 guilders. I still don't know how my parents managed to afford it back then, but I'm glad they did.

I bought one of the first A500 that were available in our area with Kick / OS 1.2 back in 1987 (or was it early '88?) in a "Quelle" warehouse. It is still up and running, although the case has changed a few times over the years.  :-)

I saved up for a bog standard A500 from my local computer shop in the summer of 1991. A big step up from the 8 bit machines I had owned up until then. Very fond memories and one of my most exciting periods in computers!

My first Amiga was an A500 with a 1084S monitor (still have it, still working flawlessly) on 24 March 1991 from a local computer shop in Chania, Crete, Greece. The price? About 240.000 drachmas (about 700 euros).

Chania, eh? Busy, touristy, but still charming in its own way. I especially liked the boulevard with all the pottery salesmen, and was sorely tempted to bring something home.

My first Amiga, an unexpanded A500 with 1084S monitor, was bought in 1987 for the price of fl. 2300,--, which would be €1000 in today's money not counting inflation. I was looking at something to replace my Schneider CPC464: finding software was a nightmare for that thing. Some store pointed out that there had just been a new computer out with the name 'Amiga', and handed me a leaflet. I bought one two months later, I think. I got it at a store on the Korte Poten in the Hague, the Netherlands. The chain the store belonged to disappeared ten years later or so, but it kept on selling computers; I do not know if the store itself still exists as it's been years since I was there last.

Bought my first Amiga (2000) in January 1989 by mail order from Safe Harbour (I think) when I was living in Houston, Texas.

I bought my A1200 from amigakit, last year. I had briefly access to an A500 back in 1990-91 and I have been curious about the Amiga OS and the hardware since then. I got my A1200 upgraded to 1260/50 and I bought an additional A500+ from ebay. Both machines are in great shape and lots of fun, especially the asm and hw programming. Recommended to anyone who is looking for variety and is bored of PC :)

1988, dixons in oxford.
i remember being blown away by the robocity demo on the workbench 1.2 A500 they had, and being gutted that my machine came with workbench 1.3 and no robocity!
little did i realise i had one of the very first 1.3 rev6 A500's
i think it cost £399, and a 1084s for £199

--- nostagic history follows ---
i then saved and saved and bought via mail order, a Cumana external 3.5" drive for £69, but the 1Meg ram upgrade was were it was at.
although i didn't have eyestrain from having to use a tv, i couldn't play the more numerous "1Meg only" games and demos. so more saving, and £39 for a ram upgrade later from whats become Electronics Boutique / Game in Oxfords westgate shopping centre, and i had the system that saw me through years of fun times.
eventually tricked out with 3.1rom, 2mb chipram, m-tek020+4mb, AdIDE (helped lift the M-tek over the minimegachip), 20Meg drive, and A570 CDrom. i didn't feel the need to go A1200 as i could outgun a base 1200 even with with fast ram. only AGA eluded me, and that was only for games, so bought a CD32 about 1993

1994, in a fit of stupidity, swapped my faithfull A500 and a stock A2000 for a dead A4000/030 with no keyboard/ram/hard disk. (it was a spare video titling machine used for "The Word" TV show). £90 to fix the A4000, £90 for a keyboard, £120 for four 4Mb 72pin simms, £110 for a 5.1Gb IDE quantum fireball, and £50 for a PLCC 25mhz 68882. then painted it purple with the "AMIGA" resessed logo picked out in silver.
that machine with a cyberstormII/040 and CV64/3D saw me into and out of my only year university ;-)

1998, swapped that for an A4000T
built it into an "ultimate PPC amiga"
2001, sold the A4000T in another fit of stupidity. monumentally gutted.

out into the x86 wilderness untill..
2004, picked up a 2nd hand boxed A1200 off a mate for £40,
2006, old rev5 A500 circa 1987 off the future brother-in-law for nothing
2008, wanted another A1200 as didn't like my blizz030IV sitting there not doing anything, accidentally landed two A1200's and an A600. so thats where i am today.

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

I bought an A1000 setup from "The Slipped Disk", a combination store & user's club in Madison Heights, Michigan. Must have been in 86 or 87. Still have the computer, although the 1080 monitor died about 10 years ago.

I bought an A1000 system from a classified advertisement in the newspaper from a guy in London Ontario (Canada). That was back in '87 or '88 I think. I was in high school. It came with a monitor, printer and lots of software. I think I paid about $800 CAD for it if I remember correctly.

First Amiga,

What a subject.
Got mine from a local dealer. We had 3 in those days.
1986 bought my first computer at Omnitek computers in
Tewksbury,Mass for a mere $1295.00. I bought it with my wife's student discount. She never used it. The A1000 was a buzz with 4096 colors while a PC had 16. I was hooked.
Deluxe Paint sold the computer then.

I frequented the dealers as much as I could : The Memory Location especially upgrading to an A2000 in 1989.
Through the years I had an A500 and 3 A1200s too. I also went back to an A1000 from Software Hut in the 90's for nostalgia sake. After my 1200 blew up I went back to Software Hut and have an A4000T at last after all these years. Thank you for Software Hut. They got much of my business through the years. 10 years prior the cost of an A4000T was near $3,000.

Guess what, right now I only have an A4000T because my PC with 2 Gigs of ram, 512 K graphics card and Dual core processor at 2.86 GHz bit the dust. I'll be solely Amiga cruising again until the PC is fixed. Or should I fix it?
Ahhh, the Amiga 1000. What an idea.

I bought my A1000 at Aldi in Herford/Germany. I think it was around DM1500 in 1987 or so. Can't remember the exact year. :-D

Bought my Amiga 2000 and 1084S monitor in spring 1991 at the department store chain Karstadt in Hannover, Germany, from my confirmation money.

Had yet again to beat my three years younger brother - our "arms race" started with him buying an Atari 2600, which I surpassed by a Sega Mastersystem and later a Sega Megadrive. When he finally got an Amiga 500 about 1990, I was left with no choice. :-)

My dad bought our A1000 from Amigo Business Computers, East Northport, NY (Long Island) in spring of 1986, iirc.  (with the 512k expansion card, of course)

Along with a 1080 monitor.  I believe we got the A1010 floppy drive some time later.

It came with Kickstart/Workbench 1.0, and ABasic.  We also got Deluxe Paint 1 with it as well, which was on a 1.1 disk,
so it didn't actually work until they figured out that we needed the 1.1 Kickstart disk too. hehe.

We didn't get a pack of floppies for a week or so.  I remember my parents went out for the evening, and I drew a picture in DPaint, but was unable to save it since we didn't
have any floppies, so I left the computer on until they got home to show it to them. :)
