Mediator Hardware Issues
« on: July 06, 2008, 04:24:03 PM »
Have had a few issues since upgrading a Mediator SX to TX.

Spider USB card fails under OS4 but works fine under 3.9.
Error message shown in Poseidon.

20-poseidon.library: Opening Devs:USBHardware/spider.device unit 2 failed bad length (-4).
20-poseidon.library: Opening Devs:USBHardware/spider.device unit 0 failed bad length (-4).
20-poseidon.library: Opening Devs:USBHardware/spider.device unit 1 failed bad length (-4).

Sound Card modes shown in AHI but sound comes out garbled under OS4 but sounds fine under 3.9.

Tried to use native OS4 drivers for the Radeon card using SX and TX mode.
After switching on the machine, after the purple screen and reboot, the boot process just stops.

Tried to use Elbox drivers but P96 doesn't show the Radeon Board to attach to.

Anyone else has similar problems or successfully installed any of the above?

Did all these items work OK with OS4 and your MediatorSX as you have not made that clear.

I didn't think the spider or soundcards were functional with OS4 no matter what Mediator you used and whilst I understand you can get away with the Elbox drivers that was not advisable.

I've recently purchsed a Mediator TX and Radeon card so I'll see if they work with OS4.I've abandoned my Spider for a Subway and the latest version of Poseidon seems stable under OS4. Hope to use USB soundcard and ethernet with this device.

USB and Audio cards with fine when I revert back to SX mode using Elbox drivers.

Haven't got the Radeon working under any circumstances.

Elbox and author of the Poseidon USB stack are not on good terms. I think that the Poseidon stack blocks use of the SpiderUSB card.

No. Not with releases prior to V4.0. I would be glad if that kind of FUD is not spread.

Having a look at the mediator list would have revealed that there is a newer version of the spider.device which should cure the problem under the TX board, but I haven't followed the thread in detail.

However, the benchmarks on the Mediator list and on a1k.org show *very* little gfx performance differences between the SX and the TX (at most 5% more on particular operations). In fact, some tests seem to perform even slower.

I apologize, that was not my intention. I stand corrected. :)

Have the latest spider.device, doesn't work.
Have also tried another that Elbox asked me to test, without success under OS4.

Yea no more Poseidon drivers. The OS4 stack is much better and so much easier to use than the cludge fest of Poseidon. Also you don't have to worry about Chris hodges pulling the rug out from under you ( see past Soap Opera history of Poseidon for more info). Or your Machine suddenly going berserk because the clock triggered or you triggered an Easter egg in Poseidon.

@tired of life

Spider driver 3.16 working fine for me under 3.9 and Poseidon 2.2 and mediator TX. Email Elbox for a new Audio driver for TX
