SIMM memory problem in accelerator
« on: June 27, 2008, 09:00:34 AM »
Well, it seems my latest stream of problems might be because of dud memory, but I need to confirm.

LHA starts to act funny throwing CRC and I/O errors when depacking files after a cold rebot and doing some stuff.

I have a Microbotics M1230XA, on a KS3.0 A1200.

The card's memory test throws these results:

========================================================================
 MBRTest-2 is a product of MicroBotics, Inc.
 1251 American Parkway, Richardson, Texas 75081, USA - (214)437-5330
 Manufacturers of Great Peripheral Products Since the Amiga Was Born!
========================================================================

Selected tests:
   MSCAN MARCH DTADD FLOAT
Selected memory area:
   FAST RAM at address 8000000, size 2000000, 32bit
Cycle 1, MSCAN, FAST RAM at 8000000 started
Cycle 1, MSCAN, FAST RAM at 8000000 done in 00:00:29
Cycle 1, MARCH, FAST RAM at 8000000 started
--> MARCH error 1 at 82008f0 (2008f0), wrote 55555555, read 45555555

--> MARCH error 2 at 82010f0 (2010f0), wrote 55555555, read 45555555

-->       lines: 28.
--> MARCH error 10 at 8a050f0 (a050f0), wrote 55555555, read 45555555
-->       lines: 28.
Cycle 1, MARCH, FAST RAM at 8000000 done in 00:00:30
Cycle 1, DTADD, FAST RAM at 8000000 started
Cycle 1, DTADD, FAST RAM at 8000000 done in 00:00:23
Cycle 1, FLOAT, FAST RAM at 8000000 started

If I cold start and perform only MARCH, it gives no errors. But if I do MSCAN first, it already gives this error.

Does anybody know what's going on?

I also suspect the PSU, right now I am using one of the heavy early german bricks, which run 2.5A on 5V and 1A on +12V

What do you guys think?
Just in case, I am getting myself hold of new SIMM modules.

I can not give you an answer to your problem but I have an A2000 with a blown up psu and I just got this link about how to convert pc psu's :
LINK TO CONVERT PC PSU TO AMIGA  :rtfm:
Hopefully this can help you out a little bit ...

I would test it some more with utils from Aminet, just to be sure.

if you decide to use  atx psu in A2000, maybe my photos can help a bit:
