Save Jodrell Bank - Home of the Lovell Telescope
« on: June 25, 2008, 10:10:35 PM »
Just a little thing I thought might be of interest / concern to those of us in the UK. There's still time to sign the official petition!

Nah, probably not. You know what the UK government’s like…(A while back I saw a news article about so called *secret* bonuses for MP’s and such forth).

Just in case, the petition is here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/jodrellfunding/

Scroll down a bit, I’m in the list (And so is my Dad!), what with both of us being radio hams.

Good for you!

Add up all those MP's bonuses each year and the project would have been completed in half the time...

(In my personal opinion there's too many great engineering and scientific marvels being condemned and lost to the clutches of time, and also in my opinion too many, errrrr, nah, I won't bother going down that road just yet...).

Yeah, it's great the way the MPs tag on a nice little pay rise into the back on almost every bill they pass...

I hate politicians... I rather like Douglas Adams description of the slimy reptiles..

If I may (Mr Adams take on politics):

"The lizards rule the people, and the people hate the lizards," we are told.

The hero asks why, if it's a democracy, and if the people really hate the lizards, they don't simply vote them out of office.

It's explained to him that the people believe that, if they don't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard will get in.

I like the bit where they describe any request needing to be sent in, sent back, filed, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for 3 months and recycled as firelighters...Or something to that effect.

I actually edited the bits involving Vogons (On an audio track) and swapped them for "MP's", but that was a long time ago...
