New Problem :-( Non Amiga Q - But You people are the best !

Hey Guys,

this is a none Amiga Q, but anyway. This is the site that I love
the most, and here I always get FAAAAssssttt answers :-)

I downloaded an ISO of ... Ehmm... Ubuntu. I now have a file
called Ubuntu.ISO on my Mac OS 10.5 ... I want to burn it to CD
and use the ISO 9002 option in Toast. But it doesnt work. I can't
boot from the CD anyway :-S ...

I tried just moving the .iso file into Toast and burn it ( Didnt work )
I extracted the .iso file and burned it again. ( Didnt work )

What do I do wrong ?

EDIT: Got Ubuntu installed ... On the whole harddrive. I then wanted to
install Windows XP afterwords but the install exits saying it cant find any
harddrive ??

Note.: As I tried to Format the HD in Ubuntu, it always says ( I Dont have permisson to do anything )

I always just use DiskUtility under Applications->Utilities. Drag the iso in the pane and click the burn button. I could never figure out toast.

Have you tried burning with Disk Utility? (Menu: Images > Burn...) I have used this to successfully burn Ubuntu CDs. Then hold down Alt when you boot your Mac and make sure you can see the CD as a boot disc, select it with the arrow keys and press enter.

Isn't ISO-9002 a quality control standard? (You know, for factories and stuff.)

Two quick things:

1. Did you verify the image after downloading it? (Checksum, hash, etc.)
2. Why not use Disk Utility instead?

Oops. Beat me to it. I think you can also just hold down C to boot from CD.

If you want Ubuntu and Windows XP on the same hard drive you have to install XP first AFAIK, simply because XP doesn't recognise the existence of Linux (or any other non-Windows OS).

The default XP file system is NTFS, whilst Linux has a few different file system options (I suppose ext3 is the current default), but does not offer NTFS. In other words you'll need to partition your HD so you have both NTFS and ext3 (or whatever Linux file system you want to use). Ubuntu should offer you partition options when you're installing it.

Stupid thing ist - Ubuntu is installed on the complete harddrive. Im trying to kill Ubuntu now and format the whole thing into NTFS ...
