I was at a (German) friend's birthday party last weekend, and I was one of only two English guys there... I have to say... there is something great about the way the German woman say "Matt"... It sort of sounds like "Ma" with a very sharp "T" at the end! I guess you had to be there... :-)

You would probably pronounce it the same, yes. But English people tend to flatten out the "a" sound which I don't like so much!
