Blizzard 1260 (with 68040@40 MHz) and SCSI cards...

Hi to all,

strange behaviour of my Blizzard 1260 (with 68040@40 MHz)
It works flawlessly... great card but... I cannot use any SCSI card! ((
I tried the Blizzard SCSI... nothing...
A HC+8... nothing...
The SCSI integrated in the Micronik z-3i... nothing...
The Amiga boots... the SCSI does not work...

Any suggestions...?
With the Blizzard 1230 everything is ok!

Can you see the device driver for whichever SCSI device you are using? (e.g. type "version 1230scsi.device" in to a shell and it should return a version number)

NO! The Amiga does not even start!!!
It ask for a DOS floppy (the violet boot screen) but then it hangs... ((
If I disable the SCSI device everything is ok (obviously I boot from the IDE HD...)...

Try disabling the onboard scsi of the Micronik z3i board - there is a jumper (iirc it is with the scsi ID jumpers) for this purpose.

IIRC the scsi of the Micronik z3i has compatibility problems withe one of the Cyberstorm cards (mk2 or mk3) - it may be that this also affects the operation of other scsi buses also. When I had one of these busboards, I found that the onboard scsi wouldn't work at all with a Blizzard PPC card attached.

I have ONLY the z-3i SCSI device!!!
I tried also with others (but with a z-2i busboard) and the Blizzard does not work with ANY SCSI cards!!! I do not know it this is a problem of my card or if there is something I can do (jumper, setting, something else...).
It does not even work with my Blizzard SCSI kit in a standar A1200!!!

There is your problem!

You need to have 1230scsi.device because that is the driver.

With your Blizzard cards, you should have received the disks which contain all the software you need to enable the cards to work

You need 1230scsi.device installed.

No you don't. 1230scsi.device is in the ROM of the SCSI interface. When the SCSI card is attached, 1230scsi.device is made available to the system immediately. There is no requirement to copy it from an install disk.

Often, the SCSI doesn"t like to be used over 25/30 Mhz on Amiga !
Try to change your quartz for a 50 Mhz one first.

Well,

the device is 123scsi.device for the z-3i and 1230scsi.device for the Blizzard IV SCSI... they are very similar in name (the chip is the same!)...
And it's not needed to install them... I confirm it.
Let's not forget that my problem is not the raw functioning of the SCSI devices! They do with the Blizzard 1230 IV! They simply do not with the Blizzard 1240 (68040@40)... same configuration but... nothing!

To be or not to be... that's the question!
Jokes apart... the right question is:
Why SCSI cards (all) are perfecly seen with the Blizzard 1230 (68030@50) and completely invisible with the Blizzard 1260 (68040@40)?
No device is installed in both configs!
And then the HD has to be seen BEFORE any devices is loaded!
