SurfSquirrel incompatible with CNET.Device + CF Adatper?
« on: June 07, 2008, 03:44:55 PM »
I have been using my Amiga A1200 (OS3.1) with my pcmcia network card without any problems. Recently I have installed Surf Squirrel (without any particular problems).

Since then:

1. I am unable to use my PCMCIA network card any more (it says cannot initiate device or something like that)

2. When I boot my A1200 with my CF Adapter/CF Card inserted and then try to mount CF0:, the drive icon doesnt appear on screen (I never experienced this problem prior to installing SurfSquirrel). If I insert the CF Adapter/CF Card *AFTER* Workbench has done loading and clicked on CF0:, then it works fine.

Eeeeek  :-o   :-o   :-o

Any idea whats going on?

Thanks in advance!

The squirrel loads a device at startup which takes over the pcmcia slot, i can't remember what it is but you just remove it from startup.

I'll have a look see if i can find the info again as i had this problem as well.

There is a command in your startup-sequence

c:squirrelscsi >NIL: MOUNT

if you remove it your network card will work again.

Strange, I look and there is nothing like that. I have SurfSquirrel though - I dont know if it makes a difference. The only thing related I see is a command which runs CD32 startup in case a CD32 is present in the drive.

Any ideas?

Update:

I found that in the user-startup. I removed it, but still, if I boot the A1200 with the PCMCIA CF Adapter/CF in drive, it wont mount.

If you didn't find any related Squirrel software in your startup-sequence, look for it @ user-startup and even in the wbstart drawer.

The Squirrel software is a well known "terrorist" for other PCMCIA devices.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Hi,

I've just had the exact same problem. I bought a CF Adapter and installed the stuff for it.

I can see that it mounted but it didnt work.

After a bit of Googling, I found that the Squirrel drivers cause issues on the PCMCIA slot as it's not a standard PCMCIA device.

I now have mine working fine. All I did was move the CD0: mount from the \devs\DOSdrivers draw to a place I can still access it and hey-presto, CF adapter works fine.

If I need to use the DVD drive I just go into the location I moved the CD0: mount to and double click it from there. Mounts and I can use it.

Give that a go.

Basically, anything that mounts in DOSdrivers for the squirrel (serial port too on surf squirrel) it's cause problems on the PCMCIA slot.

Hope this helps
