Numbers, please?
« on: August 16, 2003, 06:28:31 PM »
Is there any way to get a ballpark figure of how many AmigaOne/Peggasos owners are out there?  How about developers?  I hear a lot about Peg developers, little or nothing about AOne developers.
Now featuring new and improved G4 AmigaOne, with Mozilla!

Well, Peg developers have many platforms to code for, but A1 just has linux, so if you count all linux developers as A1 developers, then it's millions! ;-)

Still trying to build my own AT form-factor Amiga motherboard.  :-D
- Doc

A4000D, A3640 OC-36.3MHz, custom tower, Mediator A4000D. Diamond Banshee 16M, Indivision AGA 4000, GVP HC+8.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

You'll need two washing up bottles, fifteen lolly pop sticks and a near infinite amount of sticky back plastic, and a selection of felt tip pens.

One for the older British views...

There are 600+ MorphOS users out there, there are less then 100 AmigaOS 4.0 betatesters out there.   How many Teron boards are out there really isnt an issue, since they arent running AmigaOS 4.0.   Lots more developers out there working on MorphOS then on 4.0 apps.   Main reason is MorphOS is available and shipping now.   When 4.0 becomes available, some of the current MorphOS apps may get ported there as well, but not a lot of developers are working on a port to an OS thats not shipping.

Using a friends PEG 600.

Me, I will buy a AOne Lite or Peg II or maybe both, but am waiting for OS 4 before making any true choice.  Baring that, worse comes to worse I will buy a Mac Duel G5.   :-D

The number of Pegs out there is fixed and not going to increase until the Peg 2 is released. The A1s, on the other hand, continue to dribble out and eventually will overtake the Pegs in population.

As for the numbers of users, they're unknown. Both sides can make claims of their registered users, but the true numbers are unknown.

I predict that the numbers are going to change dramatically when OS4 is released.

You don't know that.  Don't forget, we popped out 50 more only a few weeks ago.

According to Alan Redhouse, Eyetech has sold "significantly more" than the announced number of Pegasos boards. So if this is on the level, there are already more AmigaOne boards out there than Pegasoses. On the other hand, most Pegasos boards are actually being used, I would guess.

I'd expect an uptick all right, but don't know how dramatic it will be. Many of the supporters have already bought or ordered AmigaOnes as a show of support and faith. True, some people have said they'll buy once AOS4 is ready, but I think this is a smaller number that the "already bought" number. (Just my hunch, of course.) For the sake of the Amiga product, I hope they can bring down the price somehow. But there's also the sticky problem of the promised rebates and apparently no money for them.

Pegasos 2 will also cause a surge on that side, of course, so I guess we'll see momentum swinging back and forth with product releases.

gary_c: You forgot one essential bit of information. Eyetech
annoucement is about their sales, not sales to end-users. There
is 'considerable amount' of unsold Aones on various resellers
storage rooms, waiting for OS4 to appear. (and hoped sales boom)
