Project continues!

I am attempting to make a faceplate to use the original 3.5 drive from my 1581 in a 5.25 drive bay. This is what I have so far, looks like crap. I am thinking of sanding it down completely, using lightweight stucco (!!) to fill in holes, sand with fine sandpaper and spray paint.



Anyone have a better idea?

You mean you gonna sand it flat across and make it smooth? I used plastic primer when I built some plastic goodies. Maybe instead of stucco (!!) or bondo  (:-)) or lead (:-o) you could just use primer and sanding and primer and sanding until it's super awesome like you want it.

+1 for the bondo.  Just use a little bit and sand it smooth.  It will work much better than useing multiple layers of primer.

Fiberglass the faceplate to the case front, and use auto body putty (bondo, by any other name). This is easy - strong - and will end up looking seamless. Then paint.
I added a 1581 drive to a 128D case years ago with this method.

Doesn't the 1581 use a standard Amiga drive mechanism?

If that being the case, perhaps a drive from an a1500/a2000 would provide a good result - the drive could then be housed in one of the towers 3.5" slots and freeing up a 5 1/4" slot for some other use.......

Also, modifying a standard PC drive for use with Amiga - lots of info elsewhere on this site - might also work and save yourself a lot of time and effort?
