Minimig and Amiga Forever 2008 roms
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:30:31 PM »
My Minimig arrived today (a big thanks to Matthew at AmigaKit!).  After installing the case I'd purchased a bit ago I tried to boot my new prize.  I attempted to use the ROM files and key from the latest Amiga Forever 2008.  No boot.  After finding my Amiga Forever v 2.0 CD I copied those files to the card and the Minimig booted perfectly!  Very nice.

So, looks like the new AF2008 rom files aren't compatible.

For those who wonder whether to get a Minimig...wow, very cool and appears to be highly compatible so far.

Not quite. Minimig just doesn't support the encrypted files. Solution is simple enough however:

1. Boot the emulation with desired ROM.
2. Use SaveROM or similar tool to dump the ROM to a file.
3. Use the dumped file.

Piru...

This isn't required anymore since the 1.1 firmware.  You need the encrypted kick file and the rom.key file in the directory.  With the Amiga Forever 2.0 encrypted roms the Minimig boots fine.  With the 2008 roms it doesn't boot.

The docs for 1.1 say they've tested encrypted AForever roms from AF 2005.  Something appears to have changed in the 2008 update.

Regardless.

You can still rip the ROM from within the emulation and use it with Minimig just fine.

right, there are some tools (getkick30_usr.lha in aminet?) to rip the rom and save as file.
Also possible to use free AsmOne  assembler with "WB" command.
Start address: $F80000
End address: $1000000
($FFFFFF will miss one byte!). File size must be 524288 bytes.

Strange... I think Dennis just tested it with his Amiga forever (2005?) set. May be the encryption has changed in the next releases.
I don't have any of this sets, so I can't crosscheck. Better extract the ROM image out of an working Amiga system. But only use ROM made for MC68000! Kick 3.x from A1200 or A4000 will not work due to 020+ instruction usage.

Are you sure you have the updated PIC?  If not then then the encrypted ROMs will not work until you do the update.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.
