Does Amiga Inc deserve to be so derided?
« on: June 04, 2008, 10:31:21 PM »
I know this will provoke the inevitable flogging a dead horse comments.  Is it just me or are they more tiresome than the threads they are attempting to decry?

Anyway, I was thinking that perhaps, and this is only my opinion, Amiga Inc. have done more for us than any owner since Escom.

We have a new os ok there are many problems in the majority of us actually being able to use the os and its not a perfect situation, but it is something.

Anyway just my penny's worth.

Not because of A. Inc., but despite of them. Because of A.Inc there isn't any new hardware to run it on.

Amiga Inc. is looking forward to something else than the real Amiga we had in the old days.

They are just in another planet (a planet full of sh*****).

Fixed that for you.

Because you know, escom went broke, not not before flogging us A1200s and A4000s, but last I checked, didn't defraud their userbase (T-shirts), flog their users known faulty goods, cancel medical insurance payments for their employees without telling them, not pay their employees for yonks, lie to partners, sign contracts that are so pathetic a first year law school student would laugh at... I can go on..

We have a new os

Which Amiga.inc had nothing to do with beyond the licensing of the name.

And the reason you're in that situation is because of draconian licensing that Amiga inc demanded of its original partners with regards what AOS would and would not run on. And because it destroyed the only real option for future amigas in the form of Amithlon, again, because of licensing.

Wrong, it is nothing - you can't buy anything that'll run the AmigaOS. If Amiga.Inc had actually had anything resembling a plan, we would now all be using Amithlon on screaming fast computers THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY!

The fact is that Amiga.Inc have dropped the ball on so many different occasions that it simply isn't funny any more.

So yes, in no uncertain terms, Amiga.Inc deserve everything they get and much, much more!

AmigaInc bring it all on themselves!

If they don't see any money in new amiga hardware they should be honest with the community and just say so.

In June last year they said new hardware was on the way from ACK .... nothing came of it. Nobody believes anything they say anymore.

IMHO they don't have any real interest in it and are happy to stick with selling amiga - pc conversions for $5 a pop.

I'm amazed that one man can create the mini mig and yet despite the money they had Amiga Inc couldn't come up with a single board in the last few years.

It's because of Amiga Inc. that the "Amiga" is still stuck back in the technological dark age. What they should do is simply give all rights to the Amiga community and let the open source model take it from there. Just imagine being able to activily contribute to the makeup of the OS itself. Imagine being able to freely port it to more powerful and, most importantly, availiable hardware. Oh well...

There is a special place in hell for Amiga Inc. and McBill, I'm almost sure of it.

No, read up about the mess Amiga Inc. made of everything.

Escom got the A1200 and A400 back into production, got these machines back into shops, got a new revision of AmigaOS into development and managed to gather together all the existing Amiga IP and technology... something akin to hurding cats given the mess of IP and copyrights Commodore left behind... They also consolidated all Amiga related technology in one single company. Oh and before I forget, they started work on a new amiga, called the "Walker"...

Amiga Inc. did... er... well they sold Tao's essentially useless Elate system with a nice big AmigaDE sticker on it for windows computers... what else did they do? hmmm... nothing much other than create a mess of licenses that gave control of the Amiga name to incompetent companies... other than that they did nothing.

AmigaOS 4.0 is nothing to do with Amiga Inc. and even without AmigaOS4.0 we still have MorphOS and AROS...

A misspent penny if ever there was one!

Amiga Inc have done zip for us.  They were so busy trying to run away from their debts they sold their OS off to Hyperion.  They announce products that don't every come out, new Amigas, new OSs, etc.  The only thing they have for sale on their site are old Amiga games remade for the PC.  Except for one programmer in Washington all of their programmers work in dotNet.

They show up at comdex, demo a version of Taos Intent and go silent.  Their website hasn't been updated since February.  They are not our friends.

Yes,

In simplest terms Amiga Inc. has managed their assets very badly. So badly in my opinion, they couldn't have done much worse if they tried to.

I think you won't have the Amiga community embrace Amiga, Inc. until they release a concrete product that is fully and directly related to the Amiga community. Their current products are not targeted at us.

I think many of the remaining members of the community and others that have left but still have a fond place in their hearts for Amiga, would like to see new hardware running AmigaOS.

I'm not sure if Amiga, Inc. will deliver or not. They haven't to this point but I think we'll see for sure, shortly after the legal battle is over.

I'd like to hope again.
