CD-ROM Problems!!!
« on: June 03, 2008, 10:47:23 PM »
Hey everybody, maybe you can help figure this one out.  When I burn a cd on my PC and view it on my Amiga, all the naming is automatically changed.  I know this happens, but when I attempt to install a program, this prevents the program from installing.  I literally have to go back and rename every single file back to their original names.

Is there somthing I am missing here?  Is changing these names back necessary?  What can I do to correct this problem?  Thanks.

Barney

First check your Joliet settings, and second never extract LHA archives on the peecee and use them directly on the Amiga. In most cases it will not work. The best is to use LHA on Amiga directly.

I had never any problems with both of your queries.

That is my problem.  I have been extracting them on the PC then burning them to CD.  I take it that there are good LHA extractor's for the Amiga?  What good unzipping program do you use?  I went to aminet.net and was completely overwhelmed.  Thanks.

Hahaha that was a good one!  It's like saying "Are there any good web browsers for Windows XP..."

LHA was THE defacto standard archiver for years for the Amiga from the early years.  I would even say it still is, with LZX a close second.

This link will get you a self-extracting LHa for the Amiga.  With it you should be able to extract the latest version.  For unzipping on the Amiga, use UnZip.  These are all command-line archive programs but there are numerous graphical front-ends for them.

@ barnley

As I said before. Never extract to peecee and then use it to Amiga. In mose cases something will not work normally. The best way is using LHA on your Amiga to do such things.
