Just the other day a workmate visited our house and he noticed the A1200 and commented on the fact that he used to use one (As well as being interested in all the extra drives tied into the back...) :-D
Just suppose the A1200 had been a 386 or P1 - I doubt that he would have even recognised it.
Anyone here noticed this with people you know?

That is because you live in the UK. Maybe a few other Europeans would also recognize an A1200 these days, but here in the USA, none of my friends, including a very good friend that made his living completely with an A2000 based Toaster/Flyer system until just a year ago when he switched to the PC for video editing, even he would probably not recognize an A1200 sitting on a desk, unless he was close enough to see the Amiga logo.
There are a very few here that would recognize any big box Amiga model, a few more that would an A500 and even less that would know an A1200, or CD32.
Way off topic: I love this country of mine and the people in it, but with the idiot in the White House right now and all the stupid things he has done, plus the fact that there are many times more of my Amiga user brethren in the UK and EU, it makes me wonder some times if I wouldn't be happier over there somewhere.
