Cheers.  It's still a no-go detecting Unit 1.  I'll give IDEfix a go in the morning along with that USB drive.  Thanks for all of your help.   :-)

You'll whip the problem eventually.

Now to my issue....

The problem seems to be centered on the scsi.device romupdate. If I flash to Deneb with all the romupdates except for scsi.device, the 4000 boots with no guru. This is with me running the setpatch command unaltered, so I am still double (or is it triple?) clutching.

Is there a way to tell setpatch to only run the scsi.device update and leave the others on the Deneb? There is an advantage to that right?

Or is there some other OS3.9 scsi.device file I should use to flash the Deneb with? Something somebody can e-mail me?

I hope you realise that I'm not even going to screw with the Flash ROM until I see you work it out.

Hehehe. I hope you realize how close I am to forgetting about it. :-P  Really, my machine works just fine without it. At best I'm only going through all this to save a very few seconds at bootup!

Actually, I'm just stalling. The daunting project that faces me is getting Samba file sharing working between my networked Amigas.

That's another thread for another day, but soon.

The package contains the hardware, a manual and a

the flashrom of the card. This was done, because there
are many people with problematic floppy disk drives.
Installation was a breeze. Insert the card in a free
Zorro slot, set the RESCUE jumper and power on the
system. In workbench a virtual disk is automatically
mounted with the installation software on it. Install
the software, power off the system and remove the RESCUE
jumper. Then power on again. Poseidon and Luciferin
both come with very clear documention in amigaguide format.
I had the Deneb installed in less then half an hour,
including software installation and configuration.
All of my USB devices are recognized (cardreader,
printer, scanner, flashdrives etc. ). Michael Boehmer
and Chris Hodges delivered a top product. I have no regrets
buying the Deneb card. If people have any doubts buying
this card, don't hesitate. It works beautifully and the
speed is incredible.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Do you already have drivers for your scanner, printer and card reader, did they come with the Deneb, or does the Deneb automatically work with any USB scanner, printer and card reader?

It does sound impressive the way you have described it and I do plan to get one this month if I can squeeze enough money out of the budget.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

........Add to that the fact that my Buddha card has gone tits-up and reports any drives connected to it as gibberish and I've not been having an easy time.

One interesting note for the developers:  With the Buddha card inserted, the software on the Deneb Flash ROM doesn't come up in rescue mode.  It does once the Buddha card is removed.

I don't think I will be using my Buddha card in the same Amiga as the Deneb if/when I buy the Deneb, but the problem is strange and I hope Chris find the bug and squashes it fast.

I wonder if it is just your Buddha that is causing the problem, or if all Buddha cards will have the same problem with a Deneb installed?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

You can try to use the SKIPROMUPDATES option of setpatch.
For example:
SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "exec.library,fastfilesystem" QUIET

This example will install all romupdates, except for
exec.library and fastfilesystem.

I don't know if there's another version of scsi.device that
will work with your system.

My cardreader, flashdrives etc. don't need drivers.
These are all massstorage devices, and the massstorage
class of poseidon deals with them.
For my printer I also use turboprint and for my scanner
I use FXscan. Both my printer and scanner are a bit old
(2001) and are supported by both programs.

@mbrantley
Just found a patch for scsi.device bb2. It's on
aminet.
It contains some bugfixes. From what I understand of it,
it also contains a bugfix by Chris Hodges. Maybe this
one will work for you.
Edit: if you need any help with patching scsi.device,
maybe I can help you out.

Otherwise you can also try to load scsi.device with
loadmodule and use NOROMUPDATES in setpatch.

Lloyd

@mbrantley

I've made a new scsi.device romupdate file based on the
patch I told you about (v43.45). If you want to try it
out with the deneb flash, I can mail it to you.

I just got my deneb too. I must say I'm rather impressed with the ease of install of such a complicated piece of hardware.

1 plug the deneb
2 install the software on the deneb flashrom
3 install fat95 inside extras
4 turn off
5 remove rescue jumper
6 boot, stick a usb drive
7 voila ! its there

in my case I think I was lucky cause I don't have any zorro3 busmaster cards which might cause problems (A4091, fastlane, etc).

now, can somebody point me in the direction of compatible USB ethernet and audio cards ? or is everything compatible ?

also having USB ports on the back of your unit is rather awkward. Does somebody have a good idea for a A4000 case mod ?

if I find the deneb put my x-surf useless, I may put them in sale and buy another for my a3000 :)
I believe in mt. Fuji

I just bought a 3' usb extension cable so that it comes around to the front of the case. It costs about $5.
