Just noticed your edit. I don't think I'm skipping scsi.device, but I'll look again tomorrow. It's off to bed now before I mess something up!

Thanks. Will get back to it.

Amiga 4000 has full 32 bit system address space and a zorro3 bus. Amiga 1200 kickroms may boot, but you probably will be limited.

Usually when you use Idefix or the IDE controller of the
X-surf you must skip the scsi.device romupdate.
If you don't use either of these, you can put all
romupdates in the flashrom of the deneb (incl. scsi.device)
If you do use one of these, you must skip scsi.device, but
you can put all other romupdates in the flashrom.
In either case after these changes, you must change your
setpatch command to use the NOROMUPDATE option.
Edit:
After re-reading your post I think your system needs
the romupdate of scsi.device, so just put it in the
flashrom, and all other updates too. Use NOROMUPDATE in
setpatch. Then power off your system, and power it on again
after 1 minute or so.
If then you still have problems, I wouldn't know what's going on.
Doublecheck if scsi.device and everything else
is in the flashrom by clicking on the flashrom tab in
luciferin.
You can also try to contact Chris Hodges.

Lloyd

Is it the scsi.device update that allows for larger hard disks? If so, I do need it. Interestingly, I found that I used to have IDEfix installed, but the lines are commented out of my startup-sequence.

I guess if I can't eliminate the double clutch it's no big deal. I thought this was causing the A1000 jingle file to play twice (and the Deneb intro to play twice while I still had it on the Deneb flash), but it turns out that was only for the first boot after flashing the file. No double plays now.

Yes it is.

Did you try to flash it with the romupdates and power off
your system, like I said? The rom-updates normally can be
put in the flash-rom. I do this with my system, and it
works like a charm, but I use the IDE controller
of my xsurf, so I skipped scsi.device.

I *think* so, but just to be sure I will try again when I get home. Fortunately, it's easy enough to recover if I mess it up again. Will report back this evening.

Thanks, Lloyd.

I gave it a go the other night and the A4000 refused to boot - just hung with a black screen.  I swapped the ROMs back and everything returned to normal.  I'm just having to put up with OS3.1 for now as I really wanted to get OS3.9 running on it before I threw the other Amigas up for auction.

I just started reinstalling my copy of 3.1 as I couldn't get the previous one to recognise the CD ROM.  I assume that the A4000 allows 2 devices on the internal IDE connector and the CD0: device needs to be set as Unit 1 if the CD ROM is configured as slave?

I've given up on the Deneb for now unil I get the CD ROM working.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Yes, that's right. I have just that setup using CacheCDFS, and I've had it working before with asimcdfs.

Gave it another go, ensuring that I cut the power before rebooting, and I got the same results. Copied the romupdates to the flash-rom and used NOROMUPDATE with setpatch. Got the Guru at bootup.

I've put it back like it was for now and I am content if a bit puzzled as to what the problem could be.

You want to see how inept I can be? In a few days I will start a "Please help me, for God's sake!" thread about file sharing between my Amigas. I have three of my Amigas on the network now with plans to get two more X-Surf cards in coming months. And I can't get 'em talking to each other.

But that's for another day. Don't say you weren't warned!

Well, you could try to add just one romupdate at a time
to your flashrom, starting with scsi.device. Each time'
you've added a module to your flashrom reboot, and see
if you get a guru. This way you can figure out if it's
one of the romupdates that's causing this trouble.

Well I've replaced the old Hard Drive that came with the A4000 with a 2.1GB model, installed OS3.1, copied over the latest Installer and sucessfully installed all of the software of the Deneb (and FAT95 which was in the Bonus software - cheers guys!).

I've still got a couple of problems.

#1:  I've tried several CD ROM drives and none of them show up on the IDE bus (I've tried different cables too).  I've scanned using Find Device and Hard Drive Toolbox and only the Hard Drive shows up.

#2:  Nothing works on the Deneb.  I get the Deneb boot screen, but nothing I plug into the internal or external ports show up.  I've tried a USB laser mouse and a memory stick and neither even light up (the stick has a led on it and the laser stays off on the mouse).  I thought mice and keyboards were supported on boot-up?

Anyone got any ideas?

#2: Nothing works on the Deneb.

Have you added denebdmausb.device in the controller
section of Trident prefs ?
Edit: And put poseidon online?

Lloyd

If you want USB to be available immediately when booting
into Workbench, start Trident and make sure the right
controller is in the controller section. Then select online
and save your prefs. Then check if the following is in your
user-startup: 'ENV:PSDStackloader'.

If you want USB to be available immediately when you turn
on your amiga (in the early boot menu), you must put
all poseidon related stuff in the deneb flashrom.

Lloyd

From reading this thread it seems that the person having trouble either did not get sufficient documentation and setup instructions with their Deneb, or they have not bothered to read everything that came with their new toy.

I hope the first case is not true, it is a PITA to get a new Amiga peripheral and have to struggle for weeks to get it working correctly, or you have to be an expert to know how to get it working.

I am guilty of being one of those that wants to just plug in a new Zorro card or device and have a Install file that sets it up with just a dozen or so questions answered (call me lazy).

Can anyone verify what kind of setup utility comes with the Deneb?  Give us a complete review of it and what comes in the box.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

The package contains the hardware, a manual and a
registration card. The installation software is in
the flashrom of the card. This was done, because there
are many people with problematic floppy disk drives.
Installation was a breeze. Insert the card in a free
Zorro slot, set the RESCUE jumper and power on the
system. In workbench a virtual disk is automatically
mounted with the installation software on it. Install
the software, power off the system and remove the RESCUE
jumper. Then power on again. Poseidon and Luciferin
both come with very clear documention in amigaguide format.
I had the Deneb installed in less then half an hour,
including software installation and configuration.
All of my USB devices are recognized (cardreader,
printer, scanner, flashdrives etc. ). Michael Boehmer
and Chris Hodges delivered a top product. I have no regrets
buying the Deneb card. If people have any doubts buying
this card, don't hesitate. It works beautifully and the
speed is incredible.

Lloyd
