You needn't remove the previous version of Poseidon. The older version will be replaced with the new one. Nevertheless, during Poseidon 4.0 installation, there is recommendation to make several backups.

I installed Deneb on my a4k through usb mouse and keyboard connected to Highway. So there isn't no need to remove the Highway (and probably Subway) too, if you plan temporarily use both usb controllers e.g. for testing reasons. I only noticed, that at the end of installation the usb stack was disabled, so I had to finish the installation with classic mouse. After reboot, everything worked fine.

Highway & Deneb in OS3.9
A500 & A1200 & A4000D PPC

Thanks for the info.

I just wanted to be sure before I started to swap things out. I have my A3000D power supply pretty much maxed out with the cards installed:

DKB 3128 with 128MB ram
Catweasel Zorro S Class - 1 IDE HDD
X-Surf II with Subway attached
GVP Spectrum GFX card
WarpEngine 040 40mhz
1 SCSI HDD

Since I have only 4 Zorro slots, I will remove the Catweasel card (and the IDE HDD) to make room for the Deneb.

Then remove the Subway card.

This should make my system more stable than it currently is now.

Again, many thanks!

Just thought of one more thing. Do I need to force Zorro II on the DKB 3128 in order to use the Deneb at HIGH speed?

I have Buster 11 installed on the motherboard.

There is no option to "force Zorro II on the DKB3128". Such a setting would be pointless.

If you have a Rev11 buster (and you do) then you can only have 1 Zorro III DMA master.

The DKB3128 will not be a Zorro III DMA master.

Your GVP Spectrum card... has a low chance of being a Zorro III DMA master. (But as it has its own RAM, I don't think it is)

The Deneb manual lists 3 Zorro III bus masters,

A4091 (& A4000T SCSI),
FastlaneZ3,
Deneb,

I'm not sure if this is a definitive list or not.

Deneb runs at high speed under all situations. The only configuration is whether to use the DMA or PIO driver.

You should use the Deneb PIO drivers if you are unsure which to use.

Followup:

I tried to install the Deneb with only removing the Catweasel card and switching the IDE HDD to port 1 on the X-Surf II

This resulted in NOT being able to see and thus install the DenebInstall virtual drive.

I then removed the DKB3128 card from the Zorro slot and switched the power back on. I then was able to see and install the S/W.

I then removed the jumper from the Rescue location and moved it to the Spare position. and re-installed the DKB3128.

Machine would not boot, no errors, just a blank screen.

I then removed the DKB3128 again and setup the Deneb for DMA via the driver.

I then tried to access my flash drive memory stick, only to find that the file structure was slightly corrupted.

I then went to PIO mode via driver, OK now.

Why can't I run with DMA mode????

you have to activate dma mode by hand after the install. the driver that has to be loaded under poseidon controllers is located under devs:USBHardware/denebdmausb.device you have to turn off the pio mode that is active by default and turn on the denebmausb.device. you can now save this setup but i would test it extensively first with some massstorage unit connected to usb. dma mode may cause problems with third party hardware.  im just evaluating the probs with my mediator4kdi (and other) atm.  the original commodore hw seems to work fine with it though.

@amiwalker,

Contact the designer of the card to see if he will offer to help/support his card.  It would be nice for all of us to know what kind of support is available before we buy our own Deneb.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
