WHDload and A2630
« on: May 24, 2008, 01:53:36 AM »
Hi,

I've just installed an A2630 accelerator in the A2000 and it runs perfectly, the only problem I have is that I need to disable the '030 and boot with original CPU to run WHDLoad games...
I've only tried two games, Magic Pockets and North & South but both refuse to load throwing up a "Dos Chunk error" requester. When I boot with the 68000 cpu they both load fine...
Is there a workaround through the tooltypes etc?

Cheers
Marcb

is your 030 full or EC ? there was some issue with MMU tooltype, but I can't really remember. Check the docs.
I believe in mt. Fuji

Looks like a full 030 with MMU...

I did as you suggested and read the docs :-) it is a known bug with some boards containing fast memory...

(I tried the MMU/S & NoMMU/S tooltypes with no luck but have found other posts around from people with same problem and it's down to the Fast Memory on some accelerator boards...)

No big deal I guess, I can always disable FastMem but it seems a waste :-)

Bummer eh?

Tried the ChipNoCache/S or NoCache tooltypes?

Which Kickstart ROM are you using? How much RAM have you got installed?

What other Zorro cards do you have?

What is the version of the ROM on the A2630?

Ahhhh bugger!  :-)

I have a SCSI card with 6mb on board and a Buddha card installed in the Zorro slots, the A630 has V7 roms...

Don't tell me the A2630 uses the Zorro memory space as well??
Actually, it should have been bleedin' obvious, 4mb on the 2630, 6mb on the SCSI card.... chimpmem shows only 8mb...
bugger indeed...

*** EDIT *** I meant "fastmem shows only 8mb" the chimp has only 2mb

Can I buy that Amiga please? ;-)

Edit - when I first read your post I thought you said "chipmem". Chimpmem sounds even better!

I think that you need to remove some RAM from your SCSI card and see if that helps.. perhaps all of it as a test.

If you put it back, perhaps tweak RAM priorities?

@ Alexh

Disabled all but 2mb on the GVP SCSI and lo and behold no more error #235 when loading games with WHDLoad!! I do only have 6mb of Fastmem now but I can live with it I guess...
Do you think it'd be safe to enable another 2mb on the GVP or will the Buddha get upset?

@ CLS2086

I have Setpatch but not Enforcer, what is that?

I wouldn't recommend buying it, runs well but the cost of bananas for the chimp is cleaning me out!

Thanks guys, now I'm off to tinker and break something else
