extra simm slot on apollo 1240 / 1260
« on: May 22, 2008, 09:53:19 AM »
Hey everyone,

I've recently decided to do something with my old A1200 (ie, sticking it in a tower). One thing I did was buy a SIMM socket to expand the Apollo 1240 board, but the thing seems to fit in both ways onto the board.

Looking around on the web and forums (and even usenet) has revealed nothing to me, so I ask: Which way round does the slot go?

Cheers in advance.

Pin 1 is usually marked - an arrow, a square solder point, a '1'. On PS/2 SIMMs, pins 10, 30 & 61 carry 5V, so check with a multimeter to make sure it's correctly oriented.  :-)

PS: Wikipedia: SIMM

When I fitted one to my 1260 it was pretty obvious because the socket locating lugs have different diameters. They locate into corresponding holes on the card.

Many thanks!

I've now installed the socket and everything seems to be well.
