How do you use your amiga(s)?
« on: May 20, 2008, 09:23:57 PM »
When I had a 500 many years ago, I mainly played games with it.  But I also had the lattice C compiler.  I learned C and 68000 assembly at the ripe old age of 17.  This time around I want to play games again.  But I want to discover new uses for the amiga, things I didn't know you could do, things you couldn't do back then.  So what does everyone use their amiga for?  What software supports the powerpc boards?  What tasks does the amiga do better than a pc?

I like the Tandem assembler for playing with 68k coding.

I don't mind OCTAmed for making music, either.

I used to do video work with my amigas. Now (from AmigatheringIX and on) will be used as standard roadshow machines for the Amigatherings.

I got my first Amiga (Amiga 500) when I was about 13.
Of course, at that age, I mainly used it for games :-D
I used it a little for Interword, DeluxePaintIII and AMOS.
I worked a little on some "tool-disks" with CygnusED, Diskmaster 1.4 and DirectoryOpus.
Listened to modules, but i don't recall the name of the mod player.
Of course, saw some of the demo's wich friends came with on floppy's.
It was upgraded with 512kb fast RAM and an external disk drive.

Later on I upgraded (I thought) to A600, upgraded to 2MB chip Ram.
And later a CDTV.
I was happy that I kept my old A500..

Around 1997/1998 i bought a used A1200 from a friend.
I got it upgraded with harddisk and a 1220/4 processor card. 28Mhz 020 cpu and 4 mb fast ram. I still mainly used it for games, music and demo's. This machine died a year later, and several years went by, I bought a PeeCee...
I still had my A500 and A600.

About 2 years ago, my interest came back, and I bought a A1200 and later a harddisk from another A.org user from Denmark.

Later I bought a A4000, witch is my "main Amiga" now :-)
I use it for games, Internet, mail and a few other things.
But.. I WOULD like to use ONLY AMIGA, but I think new hardware is needed for that.. I still hope for that to come :-)

My "winbox" is my "work horse"
My AMIGA's is for my own pleasure
A1200, Blizzard 030, 2+32MB ram, 4GB CF, pcmcia netcard, Kickstart 3,1
A600, 2MB chip ram+4Mb pcmcia S-RAM, Kickstart 3,1
CD32 - Just for fun  :-D
