WINUAE on ASUS EEE PC (701 4G)
« on: May 20, 2008, 03:07:39 PM »
Hi,

I'm having trouble getting WinUAE to bootup my Workbench 3.x ADFs on my Asus EEE PC. I have installed version 1.46 and can get normal ADFs to work fine e.g. games and demos.
Edit: I have installed Windows XP on my EEE PC.

But for some reason I can not get the Workbench 3.0 or 3.1 ADF to load. I am using KickStart 3.0 ROM image and have tried adjusting some of the other settings but still no joy :-( When I press F12 at the Kickstart screen and select my WB ADF, the screen blinks but remains on the Kickstart screen.

I have tried using the same Kickstart ROM and Workbench ADFs on my desktop PC running the same version of WinUAE and it gets a bit further (I get an error saying Not a DOS disk in DF0). I've checked on some other EEE PC specific forums and some users have confirmed it works on their EEE PC, but I have yet to find a solution...hence my post on this forum :-)

I originally thought the Asus EEE PC was not powerful enough, but if ohter ADFs work ok and other users have got WB loading on theirs, it must be something else. Hopefully somone can help me solve this issue.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give :-)

Where did you get the WB-adf from?
If other adfs are recognised, maybe your wb-adf is corrupted.

Thanks for the reply, you're correct in your assumption.

Turns out my USB memory stick had been corrupted so the ADFs I copied over to the EEE PC were corrupt too. I have reformatted the USB stick and re-copied over the ADFs and it all works fine now :-)

Cheers!

Another question though, how do I get rid of the additional mouse pointer when using WinUAE??? I can see the Amiga mouse pointer as well as the Windows mouse pointer, gets very confusing seeing 2 mouse pointers!!!

Hmm, the windows mouse pointer is supposed to hide when
emulation is started.
Do you have the latest version of winuae (1.4.6) ?

I'm using version 1.4.6 and have tried playing around with the Display options, but can not get the Windows mouse pointer to hide away. It hides away on my desktop pc, so it may be an issue with the screen resolution on the EEE.

I will try playing around with the screen options on the EEE PC to see if I can get it to work, cheers.

To answer the other question, WinUAE runs pretty well on the Asus EEE PC. Obviously it's not as fast as running on a powerful desktop, but it's acceptable for my needs :-) The default sound settings don't seem to work for me though, I get muffled and broken sound coming through. I haven't tried playing around with the sound options yet, but I think it should be fixable. Apart from the Windows mouse pointer issue above, I am quite happy with the performance :-)

Thanks

I got it working now :-)

I was using some 3rd party software to display 800*600 resolution on the Asus EEE PC (native resolution 800 * 480) without scrolling, and that seems to be causing the problem. If I switch back to the native resolution and adjust the WinUAE fullscreen/windowed resolution to fit the native resolution, I only get the Amiga mouse pointer.

Thanks for all your tips :-)

@wandeep

I have UAE on my Packard Bell Easy Note XS running Windows XP. I have the same sound problems. Let me know if you can fix the  sound distortion. I guess your solution would work for me as well.
