Serious Plea
« on: May 17, 2008, 09:34:17 AM »
Hi

SERIOUS PLEA [ So important I thought I would mention this yet again.. ]

Sorry for shouting. I just got a mail from a guy who was adamant that neither the A500 or A500+ had a battery. This is not true.... First up the A500 could have a barrel battery on the expansion card in the trap door and the A500+ is fitted with the dreaded barrel battery on the motherboard.. Just look at this picture.

Please, please if you have an A500+ in your collection then go get that battery off. We run the risk of losing the vast majority of these computers to this problem otherwise.

Ouch, that battery's the worst I've ever seen!

I did a similar thing on my A1200 RAM/FPU board, but instead with the lithium cell when it needed re-locating.

NiCd batteries leak, alot.  What about NiMH: do those tend to live better lives and die more gracefully?

I found a standard a500 with a expansion card.. The battery had corroded the memory expansion card so much that it did not work at all. Some corrosion seemed to have also spread to the amiga itself as well, so it is definitely a good idea to remove/replace the battery even on a expansion card.

The A500 did technically not have a battery, though. I guess he was half right. :-P

Hi

Did you actually read the post.... The A500+ had the battery and the A500 may have a battery on a trapdoor expansion card.

Which bit of ' the A500 could have a barrel battery on the expansion card in the trap door ' didn`t you understand, or are you unaware of the trapdoor concept.

Here you go... I'll show you a picture if that helps. And by the way, that battery on the expansion card can leak into the Amiga.

Weird is technically right. A stock Amiga 500 doesn't have a battery. The expansion, if you want to be pedantic about it, is not part of the Amiga 500. Hence the term, 'Expansion'. Weirdami was just making a joke and you took it way too seriously man.

Technically and totally incorrect, and you fall foul of the same ignorance. The Amiga 500 can be destroyed by the barrel battery in the expansion card. I didn`t say the A500 had a battery... I was raising awareness regarding the dangers of batteries.

On such matters I do not joke.

Hi

"All I need is this thermos, and that's it."

No.. You got me there. As ever we drift off into a world I just cannot understand. I'll get back to my Amigas then.

Dude, what-ever. Why are you being such a jerk? A couple of people have made a few light hearted comments, now you're insulting us. We all know the perils of NiCad leakage, some of us first-hand, but your boorish remarks of ignorance are both rude and stupid. Don't presume to know my mind. I'm ignorant of many things. Battery leakage is not one of them.

Weirdami was making a joke. Lighten up.

This guy is having a rough day I guess. He's being annoying in his other post as well about him complaining the internet lost its modem days.

Neither of you read or quoted what I said.. And then decided instead of making constructive comment to make half jokey comments which were intended to suggest that the author was wrong in his statement.

Why should I expect anything else. Especially from someone who happily calls someone a jerk. I don`t know you do I. And you were ignorant cus you didn`t read the post. And so the serious purpose of this thread was destroyed by half jokes at my expense.

What does that make you.

You just can`t help it can you. Tagging on to the nonsense of chit chat and pointless waffle just to look as though your constructively involved in the Amiga community. Annoying am I ... Well excuse me for caring. I really have no idea what this community has become. I was hopeful of not picking up on this nonesense but having a few mails from Amiga folk that do care I thought I'd drop in and see what folk were saying.

Shouldn`t have bothered.... Nothing about the classic Amiga [ as ever ]

And for the record, I never have a rough day ... I have spendid days, cus I enjoy what I do. And I will be mucking round with my Amigas till the day I die. They are truly wonderful and a treasure. I would just like to help as many folk as I can in my travels. And from groups, mails, etc I daily do more than you can even imagine. So don`t go making little of ' my day ' As with the other guy ... I don`t know you do I... So don`t make presumptions about me.
