No Display on my A3000
« on: May 16, 2008, 01:38:02 AM »
Hi All

I am firing up my A3000 for the first time. Battery has been replaced. It's one from Amercia (I'm in Australia).
Bought a step down transformer for it 250W.
It also has a GVP Graphics card on it.

I turn on the power and the scsi hard drives startup but i get no display at all.
I have tried my 1084, philiips 107E (plugged into the A3000 or GVP board).
I get no picture at all not even the coloured ones to say something's up.
I have tried seating and reseating the daughter board several times but no good.
I have an Amercian 125W PSU and I'm using a 250W stepdown transformer will that have any affect? did i get the wrong size tranformer?
I have tried the roms that came with it and also KS3.1 but nothing changes.
Please help.

Take out the GVP board & the harddrive and see if you get a Rom screen.

Hi, from what you wrote, you have three choices of display namely (i) amiga video 23pin (ii) amber VGA (iii) VGA from GVP card (is it IV24?). You sure you've tried all?

The transformer should be no problem (it should be 250V->125V not 250W->125W), since you heard the hdd spinning up.

Also, on the mobo there's a jumper for selecting PAL/ NTSC. Have you tried that?

The last but unfortunate possibility is that the dishonest seller had ripped you off by selling you an a3000 with faulty display ... :-(

Hi, my A3000 is of rev 9, with the pal/ntsc jumper located next to the Fat Agnus chip, towards front panel. The 'PAL','NTSC' are actually labelled there.
Check if your GVP card has pal/ntsc jumper too?

Here in Singapore we're using PAL for TV & video. How about in ozziland?

We use Pal i'll have to wait till i get to work tomorrow to test it out.
I hope it's just a simple jumper problem...

And yes i have some of my miggy's at work (lol they don't know that i work on them there).

OH. Is there a guide to learn how to use a multimeter?

I fixed the Display problems it was all down to jumpers.....
But the MB doesnt read any floppy drive so i have clean Paula's Legs as there is some white stuff on it, if that doesnt work then i'll swap out Paula or CIA Chip...

Sorry Kristian95 but i want to keep the other for spare parts for my work one... :)

The Zip's seem to be fine, would that affect the floppy drive working, because all else is fine except floppy disk drives don't work, but if I connect them to my A4000 they work fine
