deneb 2.0
« on: May 12, 2008, 10:51:42 PM »
I have recently accquired an a4000 from ebay, fingers crossed it is all working, but i wondered would it be worth getting a deneb 2.0 board for it, and if so what exactly will this allow me to expand the a4000 with?  Are drivers easy to get hold of?

Sorry if my questions seem stupid, years of wintel/mac use have eroded my already few computing skills.

DENEB USB is supplied complete from us with the full Poseidon v4 OEM software- this allows you to plug in USB keyboards, mice, selected network adapters, USB CD/DVD drives and mass storage devices (hard disks, thumb/flash drives, card readers)

It is rapid USB 2.0 capable card so performance is higher than any other Amiga USB solution

Added to this it features 4MB flash ROM for making some software resident.

Dont forget to check for leaking batteries on your A4000 - we sell replacement new batteries here:

I don't see why it wouldn't...

I just wanted to know if anybody had any info on hand as on http://l8r.net/technical/t-a3640.shtml it states with the 3.1 version of the a3640 (which I have) "has a bug that prevents certain Zorro-II DMA cards like the GVP PhonePak from working. In most cases, this revision (which is the most common one) is OK."

Especially since I gotta upgrade my ks roms and my last scsi hd just kicked it, need to do something about that.
I know I've got zorro III bus on the a3k but I'm not all that educated on the nuances regarding the a3k or this board ): Just would like to know for sure I've got a compatible machine before I spend the money you know.

@ koaftder

It'll probably be fine in Zorro III PIO mode. With Buster 9 or higher it'll probably be fine for DMA as well.

Buster 11: PIO mode only in A3000
Buster 9: might also work in DMA mode.

What sort of speed would I get on the fast zorro II slot on my Z4 busboard on a 040/25 175/603e A1200

Would it be the same as normal Zorro II or twice as fast ?

@Jope

If I don't use A3000 scsi and just use CSPPC scsi, Deneb would work in DMA mode?

I have a buster 9 and a buster 11 I could exchange if needed.

Where did you get that information?

I don't think this is true - the A3000D scsi controller is not DMA - is it? AFAIK only the A3000T scsi controller would cause the issues described.

From what I have read about the Deneb, there is no problem with DMA transfers operating simultaneously with scsi per se, only with DMA scsi devices such as the A4091, fastlane and the A3/4000T on-board scsi. The Deneb should operate in DMA mode in the A3000D with or without the on-board scsi controller active.

Refer here for more accurate info.

@ Matt_H

Thats pretty impressive.  SO im guessing an 040 will be even better than the 030 on a fast ZII.

Are the drivers PPC native on OS4 on MorphOS PUP ?

IF so im guessing will get even better speeds
