Picasso II video card

Hi,

I have the chance to get this video card for my 2000,I'm using 3.1 right now, and I would like to use my flat screen better, (right now I have a flicker fixer card). Question is will games work through the Picasso II video card card ok?I hope to do some art work also.I'm a little bit unclear on how this card is setup. Does it use a cable from the flicker fixer and then to display or from RGB port. Just a newbie to this card.

yes, you connect output of flicker fixer to input port on Picasso II with (inexpensive) VGA cable.
Picasso II then passes Amiga modes when you start game.

Yes, it has a passthrough for scandoubled output - I did use it with a Eyetech SD/FliFi for native screens and the combination did work OK. Does your monitor work with 15 kHz signals or does your flickerfixer output 31 kHz ?

Picasso II is a great card. I had one in my old 2000. Is your flicker fixer a scan doubler too? If so cool. If not I believe some later monitors have trouble syncing down to the standard Amiga frequencies when running games and other software that will only use the standard Amiga video output.

Will a standard 9 pin cable to 15 pin cable work to hookup this card? What 15 port on back of card does the input from flicker fixer card go to? where do I go to get the drivers?

Driverdisk can be downloaded here.
You need a standard vga-cable (15-pin male and 15-pin female at the other end) to connect your Picasso with a vga-monitor.

I'm guessing you have the Microway flickerFixer card. There's a PDF manual for it on the same site with the driver link. It contains pinouts for the card's 9pin connector and various monitors that were popular at the time the card was made. You'll have to do a little research to see which ones are the same as the modern 15pin VGA connector.

EDIT: Oh, wait. Since you're already using it with a flat screen monitor, just plug whatever goes to the monitor into the Picasso II.

On the back of my video card there is 2 15 SVGA connection. Looks like there was a sticker on the mounting bracket.
WHAT 15 pin  connection does the MONITOR go in plz?

I tried the card when hooked up to this the card started to smoke a little so I shut it down  ( looks like a resitor got hot) the card I was using it with is Microway: FlickerFixer AGA 2000
Any Ideas on what is going on?

I'll check my PII manual to confirm the connectors, but I *think* the top connector goes to the monitor and the bottom connector is for input (IE, from a scandoubler).

EDIT: Confirmed.

thanks matt l just got one these microway flicker fixers am trying to work out how to conect it to svga montior apprenly
u can get adaptors l hope well once you chould.

l think there only flicker fixers not scan doublers ?

All flickerfixers are scandoublers but not all scandoublers are flickerfixers.

Smoke is never a good thing in electronics!  Did you have the monitor plugged in to the correct 15pin connector?  What display is chosen in your preferences when you tried using it and it started smoking?  It sounds like you might have gotten a bad PicassoII card, where did you get it?  How much did you spend on it?  Did the buyer offer any warranty or state that it was in good working order?

Lots of questions so we can help you.  I have two PicassoII cards and they are very good to use on an A2000, or even an A3000.  Since you already have a flicker fixer/scan doubler, all your screens will display nicely through the passthrough of the PicassoII onto a modern 31kHz or a bit faster monitor or LCD display.

I liked the PicassoII for its passthrough as it allowed me to use just one multi-sync monitor on my A2000 when I first got it so many years ago, before I could afford a scan doubler/flicker fixer.

Does the drivers for the card need to be installed  for card to show a screen?  Can I use the RGB cable with a gender changer to the card (9 pin to 15 pin)and other to monitor
