Remember Millennium 2.2? Remake is done!
« on: May 11, 2008, 03:36:48 AM »
One of my favorite Amiga games that needed a remake to increase the game play even more was Millennium 2.2 by Ian Bird.

I had always thought that I would learn to program, and a remake of that game would be one of my first projects.  Well, a couple of guys have beaten me to it, but with a PC version that you can find here.

There is also another site dedicated to both Millennium 2.2 and is follow up game Deuteros where they are discussing a remake of Deuteros.

Ian Bird can't be found, but I hope he knows about these sites and the work done and appreciates the remaining interest in such an old and fairly simple pair of games.

Now I am inquiring if I can get the source code for their remake of Millennium 2.2 so I can attempt to port it back to the Amiga.  It may require a top of the line Amiga with a graphics card and maybe even a PPC to run such a game on the Amiga, but it is worth looking into.  We can all use more Amiga games and software, can't we?

I have been in contact with the two main programmers of this GREAT remake of a fine Amiga game and found out that they were treated very unfairly when judged for the competition that the game remake was created for.  In fact one lame judge claimed that he could not even get the game running on his PC, so his score for the game was zero, reducing their overall score by 20%.

I would like for as many of you fellow Amiga.org members to have a quick look at this game and send your praise to the original developers.  They have indicated that they may provide more support for it, if enough interest is shown.

My motive in all of this is to convince them to allow me (and a small group of interested Amiga game programmers) access to the source files so it can be ported back to the Amiga to run on a mid to high spec Classic Amiga and/or AOS4 and/or MorphOS.

So, please have a look at it and send some praise to these two guys that busted their butts for 3 months (yes, only 3 months were allowed for the competition!) and turned out what I can only describe as a masterpiece from such a small team and in such a minute amount of time.  Check it out, I think you will be amazed too!  :-o

Email me if you have trouble finding Rick and Steve's  email addresses from the links I provided in the first message in this thread.

I don't have time to play this at the moment but I did download it and run it. It ran just fine with the first attempt. Just double click and away it went...

Please do check it out, you won't be disappointed!  Specially when you get to the part where you are ready to take on the Martians on their home ground.

I just heard back from the developers and they have fixed a bug that was pointed out regarding the "Expert Mode" play and colonization of Mercury and/or Venus.  Until they release that updated file, do not bother colonization of those two planets.

I just finished the game last night, but the nice thing about the "Expert Mode" of play is that every game will be unique, so it will be just as fun to explore the Solar System's resources.

Please send your comments to the developers so they will know that there is interest for their work and motivate them to continue improvements for it.

OK, just finished a game.  You're right, when you take the fight to the Martians you get a nice "reward".  :-)

I'm glad they added automation to the asteroid mining and to the base defense.

I'll drop them a line to congratulate them on their efforts.

PS.  That judge must have been a right idiot.  You download a zip file, extract it to a folder and click on the executable.  It’s a no brainier.
