My main hobbies are plain to see whenever anyone enters my house. First thing most people do is trip over a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop (guitar!) - I have 7 guitars I think at the moment including Rickenbackers and stuff, which I'm dead proud of. Next thing they see is 3,000 LPs (they don't see the >1,000 singles until later). Then they see the 800 Atari 2600 cartridges on the mantelpiece, the Linn Axis turntable, and eventually the piano in the corner.

Most people don't get as far as the bedroom which has weird and obscure 1980's microcomputers on every available surface (Commodore 116, Commodore MAX, that sort of thing).

Oh, and I occasionally get chance to work on my 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco. :)

Cars (well this is where it got expensive, and where I got my alias, lets see if any can figure that one out)

Porsche 930 fan/owner, perchance?

My main timesinks are boardgaming and swimming. 'Boardgaming' is not hauling out Risk or Monopoly or a deck of cards, but playing designer games constructed by clever German and French blokes, and occasionally the odd Brit or Yank. I have a moderate collection of 180 titles, which is fairly small compared to the big ones comprising over 1500 titles. (And then there are people whose collection is written with five digits, I kid you not.) Swimming is lane training; I'm fairly good at it. My main goal is to achieve 4 km in one hour, that's 160 lanes of 25 m or 80 of 50 m. Currently I'm at 120 / 55-58, so I have quite a long way to go :).

When I'm done moving house I'll have to see about picking up an old desire: terrainbiking. I'm far too chicken to do downhill stuff like shown here (bunch of brainless maniacs if you ask me, but I'm jealous from top to toe) but I think I can manage a few measly dunes and wide forest trails found in the surroundings of my new home. The problem is, however, that I'm a big guy, and that finding a bike which will carry my heavy bulk is not going to be easy nor cheap. That's why I'm looking into hybrid bikes which are a cross between an ATB and a normal bike. They are built more ruggedly and have front wheel suspension, but they lack rigidity and frame compactness, making them more suited for longer stretches of uneven, but still passable roads.

I used to read a lot, but I've lost my taste for various genres after realising it's all more of the same, and that truly captivating and intruiging authors are few and far between. Most is the equivalent of junk food, as far as I'm concerned. I still like reading, though, and will happily neglect more important aspects of life---sleeping, working, the SO---finishing a story if it's good enough.
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

I've got too many hobbies, the only thing keeping me from having more is the cost.

I guess my main hobby at the moment is using my Amiga for playing and making games, but my other hobbies include:

Retro gaming in general. I have a nice collection of consoles and games, most of the big ones up until the PS2. My boyfriend and I have turned our garage into an arcade/bar style games room, so all the consoles are set up with the TV in front of a couch, but we also have a poker table, pool table, dart board, a few mini pinball machines (not full size ones) and this IR bottle/can shooting game. There's also a mini jukebox CD player for music. I spend a lot of my time in there when I'm not making games on the Amiga.

Here are some photos of the games room - http://www.spin.net.au/~amiga/GamesRoom001.jpg and http://www.spin.net.au/~amiga/GamesRoom004.jpg

Apart from gaming and chatting on IRC, I also collect things. I have a collection of Cammy (a character from Street Fighter) stuff, including action figures, dolls, keyrings, t-shirts, cards, books and comics and anything else with Cammy in it that I can find. She's my all-time favourite game character.

I love to read comics and novels too. I have a big collection of comics, ranging from superhero comics to fantasy, science fiction, and funny comics. I review comics for a paperback reader website, as well as interview the writers and artists and write other articles. Some of my favourite comics are Red Sonja, Lady Death, Street Fighter, Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes, Futurama, Teen Titans, New Avengers... the list could go on, I love them all! :)

Another thing I collect is action figures and LEGO. Most of the action gigures I get are based on comic or movie characters I like. I have nearly the full set of Stargate SG-1 figures, heaps of Pirates of the Caribbean figures (including the Black Pearl ship) a bunch of Marvel Legends, some Transformers, Star Wars and other various figures. My favourite LEGO line is Mars Mission, and I have most of the set.

Here's a photo of my LEGO - http://flickr.com/photos/24340362@N08/2312415090/

One of my favourite hobbies is something some people call "cosplay", or costume play. Basically I make costumes based on characters I love, and I wear them to comic conventions and for Halloween and stuff. The photo in my avatar is of my Street Fighter Alpha 3 Cammy costume. Other costumes I've made are two versions of Supergirl, Ravager from Teen Titans, Super SF2 Cammy, Red Riding Hood, Vala from Stargate SG-1, and I'm working on costumes for Red Sonja and Lady Death.

I don't know if you could call it a hobby, but I also love cats! I live with a cat named Black Magic, and he's the weirdest, crazy cat I have ever met, but he's also really sweet. He talks a lot, and he's really paranoid about standing on carpet, so he jumps on everything, and he can jump really high! We play lots of games together like tag and tug of war, he's a lot like a dog.

Here he is after a hard day's work helping us out in the games room construction - http://www.spin.net.au/~amiga/BlackMagicAllTuckeredOut.jpg

Cars used to be a bit of a hobby for me when I was younger. I used to live out on a farm, and having no public transport out there, I pretty much needed a car to get anywhere. I had a 1988 2.0L Holden Camira which I modified with a nicer exhaust and intake, and I fully customised the vinyl/velour interior myself in this cool black and white theme (the car had bluish interior before I changed it). I was in a Camira car club and went on a few cruises with the club too. But I've grown up a bit since then, moved closer to town, and become more environmentally responsible by replacing the car with a bicycle, which has become a much more fun and less expensive hobby than the old car. It may not be as fast, but it keeps my legs looking good.

Other than all that, I also sometimes find time to do some cross-stitching, which is like making pixel images with string on fabric instead of on a computer display. I also love to write, and I'm working on some short stories, comics, and a TV series script. I also love natural, out-doors type stuff like bush walking, hiking, camping and even a bit of gardening (I grow my own vegetables, herbs and tomatoes).

Sorry for rambling!

Hey, Cammy mentioned Lego!

When I used to have the stuff out (Some years back now, now all in storage) the last things I was building were “avoider robots” (One which worked with some novel gearing and just one motor - Still reversed and turned left/right as appropriate) and another RCX based one; as well as working lego engines - The biggest being a 4-cylinder in-line hulk (Cylinders were bricks, pistons were flat plates) that ran off a vacuum cleaner, along with a single cylinder version (~1000rpm) and a dual cylinder, fully valvegear-reversable engine using the conventional lego pneumatic cylinders.

Just thought I'd bring the car and lego topics into line  :-D

I'm a hacker, plain and simple.  HACKER= old school term meaning physicaly making something fit where it shouldn't etc.

My previous A4000T and current Xbox are living testimonies.

The Xbox now has an external Harddirve chasis (made out of a game case the same sive and shape of the Xbox) with a removable bay, has glowing ports (Alternating Red and White), a power sellector switch to change between internal and external HDs and a pop out USB port.  Oh, and it is Red and Black.  One day I'll break down and get that white case I want so it'll be red and white and worthy of the name, CheXbox.

The A4000T I fabbed a 120mm fam behind the grill that glows red, took off the SCSI-II part of the ports card on the back to make way for the SCSI-III external connection and internal SD/FF (That I never installed).

I also LOVE H. P. Lovecraft and am into the Jim Butcher books...

Mech fighting games also.  BIG Steel Battalion: Line of Contact player.  Madded the Controller to work on the PeeCee so I can use it with MechWarrion4 and the like...

ANNNND that is enough for now ;)

PS- I really like my Wii... :-D

The very mention of LEGO just reminded me that recently I began the process of restoring my childhood LEGO to its former glory. I was amazed at how dusty and yellow some of it had become, now I'm stripping it all down and giving it a good clean. I have an insane amount so I imagine it is going to take me a while.
