Reading long filename cds
« on: May 06, 2008, 05:39:30 PM »
How do I get my Amiga to read long filenames?
I have an A1200 OS3.9, i am not sure though what cdfilesystem i use. But it only displays filenames in 8.3 format...
It does however read full name Amiga cds...

If it's CacheCDFS - have a look in your Prefs drawer and you'll see an icon called CacheCDFS. You can set filename length from within that, i.e. Rockridge etc.

AmiCDFS is listed for download on Aminet  :rtfm:

Have a look - I'm sure it contains instructions.

It was already installed, but reinstalled it as instructed in the guide. But it still cannot read long filenames...

The instructions included with it said that you had to put LC or LN (I can't remember which) into the control field of the mount file for it to read long file names. Have you checked that?

Also are you sure the CD has long file names (a daft question but needed asking) on it?

AmiCDFS does not support Joliet extensions. You cannot read Windows CDs with long file names with AmiCDFS.

You should use CacheCDFS with OS 3.9. Run the OS 3.9 installer from the CD and choose to install the CD drivers only.

If your AmiCDFS mountfile was not called CD0, you might have to delete it manually afterwards.

Bye,
Thomas

cachecdfs from 0s3.5 is ok too, just go into the chachecdfs prefs and check the joliet option.
