Mint A4000/040 w/1942 monitor on eBay
« on: May 04, 2008, 06:41:57 PM »
Someone is going to get a beautiful mint condition A4000/040 from eBay when this auction is over.

I don't have the money, and really don't need another computer in the house, but I sure would like to have an A4000 that is in as good of condition as this one in my collection.

Not my auction, as I would obviously keep this one.

The seller is going just a wee overboard with the description IMHO.

The keyboard is clearly filthy (not "mint mint mint")

The mouse is obviously stained from use..

Some light discoloration on the front bezel (and what looks like a possible nick in one area)

"Little old ladies" probably didn't have their A4ks fitted with toasters, either.

Original boxes may be a plus, but also no disks or manuals..

Anyway, it's still a *very* nice unit, and probably could be nearly perfect with a little care/cleanup.

I agree that the seller has embellished the description a bit and further doubt that it was owned by a "Little Old Lady", but the keyboard looks perfectly clean to me.  Perhaps it is time to clean your monitor or LCD, the dust must be sticking to the screen.

 OK, maybe not filthy... looks like a little grime on the keys, though. (I'm sure whatever it is would be easily remedied with a little Plexus..;-))

What amazes me is how lazy some people can be.  The seller could of sacrificed 5 minutes of his precious time to use some simple green on it and it would then match his description. But no that is too hard...

I just laugh as people could get more money if he did that...  Now don't get me wrong, this one is not bad at all, but I have sure seen some pretty bad examples of dirty computers on ebay before...

A complete setup like that is a collectors dream though.  It is in pretty good shape though... So the seller will do fine.    I would of cleaned it up some, but that's just me.

I bet the battery has done it's dirty deed too.  RTC probably is toast.  Shame all the big box Amiga's share this fate...

Now what I want to know is, what's this guy smoking? ;)

Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

:flame:

An A4k without a graphics card is practically useless these days....and if that's the stock CBM 040 with the horrible memory speed...bleh

That thing is worth no more than $300..maybe $50 more because of the condition...but no manuals/disks....let some fool part with their money :D

I've been in communication with the seller regarding the machine.  Looks like he actualy UNDERSTATED the specs.  Internal we've identified a TBC and a Toaster 4000 card.

I think you folks are being a tad petty about the description...looks as mint as any A4000 I've seen on EBay.  I've recommended he pull the listing and rethink how he wants to sell this.

A lot of folks don't know what they have. To them it's just an old computer and they may make a few bucks on eBay with it.

A few months ago when I decided to get an A2000, I got one off eBay which, with shipping, was about $100. I thought it was going to be a bone stock machine. That's how it was advertised. When it arrived and I pulled the cover, I found it had all the "big" upgrades including a accelerator card and a scan double/flicker fixer, network card, etc.

To me it was a smoking deal. To the seller, it was just an old computer his uncle had given him.

$100 is way too much for a bare-bone stock A2000, you are lucky it had those parts inside.

I have seen piles of A2000s for sale at AmiWest for $40 each and most had a SCSI controller w/HD inside.

With over 9 days left in the auction and the bidding already over $300, I don't see why he'd pull it now. I'll be up there soon enough.
